Our client is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Senior Freight Operations Manager to lead their freight forwarding and logistics operations. This role is hybrid, requiring regular presence at our **Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, UK** office, with flexibility for some remote work. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end transportation process, ensuring the timely, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods across various modes of transport.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of international freight, supply chain management, and logistics operations. You will lead a team of freight specialists, optimize operational workflows, and foster strong relationships with carriers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of freight operations, including air, sea, and road freight.
  • Develop and implement efficient operational strategies to meet company and client objectives.
  • Manage and mentor a team of freight operations coordinators and specialists.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant international trade regulations, customs procedures, and transportation laws.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in freight forwarding and logistics operations, with at least 3 years in a management capacity.
  • Proven experience in managing international freight movements (air, sea, road).
  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, import/export documentation, and international trade.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain principles and logistics software.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase order administration, updating background data, quantities and pricing as guided by the buy team, to support purchase order updates and approvals.

Working in partnership with my client, we are looking for a highly motivated Supply Chain Manager to lead their order processing and purchasing teams, ensuring seamless operations and driving continuous improvement. They are a successful and reputable company with over a decade of experience in their sector, serving a global customer base. Efficient sourcing and a robust supply chain are at the heart of their business model.

As the Supply Chain Manager, you will be instrumental in optimising our end-to-end supply chain. You will lead and mentor two key teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Your focus will be on achieving operational excellence, cost-effectiveness, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the order processing team to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment, optimise logistics, and maintain excellent customer relationships.
  • Lead the purchasing team in the strategic procurement of high-quality materials at competitive prices
  • Building strong supplier partnerships and managing inventory effectively.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across both order processing and purchasing functions.
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, and develop the order processing and purchasing teams.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping on their ERP system.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Collaborate with the QC manager to evaluate supplier performance.
  • Stay informed on relevant UK and international trade regulations.
  • Develop and present performance reports using key metrics and KPIs.

Person Specification:

  • Degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a relevant scientific field (preferred but not essential).
  • 2- 3 years' experience in a similar supply chain management role, ideally within the chemical supplies industry.
  • Experience using ERP or similar systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
