Contract: (On-site/London) - 2.5 Months.

Overview

PRELOADED is seeking a Lead Designer to own the design detail and champion the player experience for a large-scale multiplayer location-based mini-game suite experience. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with strong experience in both UX / UI and game design and be comfortable with rapid prototyping based on specific hypotheses.

Due to the unique nature of this project, this role requires on-site, at least 2 days a week at our London Studio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and document all aspects of UX and Game Design (core loops, mechanics, progression, systems, UX, narrative, level design).
  • Ensure creative intent is realised throughout development.
  • Work directly in-engine to implement, balance, and iterate.
  • Be responsible for planning play testing and making observations on play testing to inform iteration.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (art, engineering, production).
  • Clearly communicate design vision and documentation to internal and external stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Game Designer operating as the only designer in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong UX / UI design ability, someone who can plan user flows, create wires and prototype the intended design in Figma / XD.
  • Someone who is able to plan and write testable content for a quiz-like experience (think Jackbox).
  • Someone who is focused on designing for the target audience.
  • Broad generalist game design skills across various genres and design aspects.
  • Technical capability to work directly in-engine.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing location-based social multiplayer games.
  • Experience designing simple, streamlined mobile games / experiences.

You'll play a key role in designing and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons that meet curriculum standards and reflect industry needs.

Experience and knowledge of specific games design packages including Maya, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine is essential.

Recent or current vocational experience in Games Design and of teaching games development, digital graphics and animation would be advantageous.

You must be able to demonstrate a real enthusiasm for teaching with an ability to motivate and inspire learners to succeed.

Must-Have:

• Relevant teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards within a specified timescale

• Minimum of Level 2 qualification, or equivalent competency, in Communication/Literacy and Maths or willingness to achieve in a specified timescale

• Minimum of Level 3 qualification in Games Design/Art related discipline.

Location: Thames Valley Park, Reading (Office based)

Pay Rate: 12.21 per hour

As a Certification Tester , you'll play a vital role in ensuring video games meet platform standards before release. You'll accurately follow specific testing steps, thoroughly investigate issues and precisely log results as well as writing clear, concise reports when issues are found. This is a great opportunity for enthusiastic, detailed-focused, game-savvy people to gain experience and build a foundation in the industry.

  • You’ll actively participate in test requirement gathering with developers to ensure QA effectively tests and supports all features of the project.
  • You’ll be one step ahead in looking at ways to make improvements, take ownership for additional activities and create efficiencies in the way you work.
