Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the firm on all aspects of data protection law, including GDPR, UK GDPR, and other applicable regulations.
- Oversee the implementation and ongoing compliance with the firm's data protection policies and procedures.
- Act as the primary point of contact for data protection supervisory authorities and cooperate with them as necessary.
- Manage and respond to data subject rights requests (e.g., access, rectification, erasure) in a timely and compliant manner.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and processing activities, identifying and mitigating risks.
- Develop and deliver data protection training programs to staff at all levels.
- Maintain records of data processing activities and ensure their accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor compliance with data protection policies and advise on necessary remedial actions.
- Advise on data breach incidents, assist in investigations, and ensure appropriate notification procedures are followed.
- Stay up-to-date with evolving data protection legislation, regulatory guidance, and best practices.
- Contribute to the firm's risk management framework by identifying and assessing data protection risks.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including IT, HR, and Marketing, to ensure data protection considerations are integrated into their processes.
- University degree in Law, Information Security, or a related field. A law degree or legal background is highly advantageous.
- Extensive professional experience (7+ years) in data protection and privacy law, with a strong focus on GDPR/UK GDPR.
- Proven experience acting as a Data Protection Officer or in a similar senior compliance role.
- In-depth understanding of data processing principles, data security measures, and data breach management.
- Familiarity with the legal and regulatory landscape pertaining to the legal services sector is a significant plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
- Strong understanding of IT systems and data security measures.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote environment.
- Relevant professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or an IAPP qualification are highly desirable.
