- Proven experience as an assembler is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided.
- Technical knowledge and the ability to read drawings and adhere to procedures.
- Competence in using tools and machines.
- A good understanding of quality control principles.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination and physical condition.
- A strong commitment to health and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities
Site Preparation and Maintenance:
- Assist in preparing the work site by clearing debris, setting up barriers, and ensuring that all necessary tools and materials are available.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all waste materials are disposed of properly.
- Assist in setting up and dismantling temporary structures, such as site huts, barriers, and access routes.
Trenching and Excavation:
- Perform manual excavation tasks, including digging trenches for sewerage pipes and manholes.
- Assist with the safe use of hand tools and power tools for cutting, drilling, and breaking ground.
- Support the operation of mechanical excavation equipment under supervision.
Pipe Laying and Sewer Installation:
- Assist with the installation, connection, and testing of sewer pipes, ensuring that they are laid to the correct line and level.
- Help to align pipes and apply jointing materials, ensuring watertight seals.
- Backfill trenches and compact soil around installed pipes to stabilize them.
Manhole Construction and Maintenance:
- Assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of manholes, including bricklaying, concrete work, and installing manhole covers.
- Ensure that manholes are built according to specifications and are secure and accessible.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.

Communication and Teamwork:
- Work closely with other operatives, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth and efficient site operations.
- Follow instructions from the Civils Ganger or Supervisor precisely and complete tasks within set timeframes.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and ensure the safe execution of work.
Quality Control:
- Assist in ensuring that all work is completed to the required standards and specifications set by Southern Water.
- Check that materials used are of the correct type and quality, reporting any discrepancies to the Civils Ganger.
- Help identify any potential issues with the work being carried out, suggesting improvements where necessary.
Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to assist in emergency situations, such as responding to bursts or leaks in sewerage systems.
- Participate in emergency drills and be aware of the procedures for evacuating the site safely
