We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer and Software Engineer to join our client. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing engineering design and support functions, and to be responsible for small projects or subsections of larger software projects.

Must have own transport or live locally due to location of site.

Candidates looking to work a 4 day week may also be considered (salary will be pro-rata).

Duties  - Software Engineer

  • Develop and maintain applications using languages C, C++ and C#
  • li>Provide design input on projects and generation of ideas for developments and new products
  • Be responsible for small projects, sub-sections of larger projects or large projects.
  • Produce engineering designs, specifications, and documentation to ISO 9001.
  • Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.

Duties - Senior Software Engineer

  • Provide planning and supervision of software engineers, tasks and support functions; taking the technical lead on software design projects
  • Planning of jobs, projects and support issues.
  • Use of GANT charts for planning.
  • Producing timescale estimates for jobs.
  • Write and check vehicle/project specifications.
  • Provide design input on projects and generation of ideas for developments and new products
  • Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.

Experience

  • Proven experience in software development in an engineering design environment with a strong portfolio of completed projects. 3 years minimum for Software Engineer and 10 years minimum for Senior Software Engineer.
  • High level language programming in C, C++ and C#.
  • Real time programming.
  • Multi-threaded and multi-process programming.
  • Development and design of InTouch display systems.
  • Development and design of HMI and GUI systems.
  • Completing and checking designs and documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Travel worldwide to troubleshoot and resolve controls/software issues
  • Commission automation systems and provide post-installation support and training
  • Modify and develop PLC code (Rockwell, Beckhoff, Mitsubishi a plus)
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to deliver high-impact solutions
  • Support continuous improvement and technical excellence across the service function

Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):

  • Proven experience in industrial automation and customer-facing service roles
  • Strong PLC programming skills

  • Willingness to travel at short notice and work from the facility when not on-site

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Outside IR35 Software Engineer

My market leading client has a superb new opening for an experienced hardware-oriented Software Engineer to join them on an initial 6 month contract.

This role is Outside IR35. Due to the nature of hardware requirements it will involve 3 days a week on-site in Cambridge; 2 days a week working from home.

Candidates must have at least 5 years Python development experience, working on highly numerical software with associated libraries (i.e. NumPy, SciPy etc).

Previous experience working on instrumentation or control-based-software working with large amounts of sensor data is essential.

Ideally candidates will also have a physics background that they can apply to their engineering.
