Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 12.85 per hour

Responsibilities
- Maintain safe working practices for self and others in accordance with the Council’s Safe Working Practices and Health and Safety Policy. li>Comply with the relevant legislation in relation to Health and Safety.
- Carry out your role in a polite and orderly manner.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of post if the relevant training has been provided.
- Hold a clean and current driving licence (and HGV licence if applicable).
- Undertake any training that is required to undertake your role safely and effectively.
- Abide by the principles and practices of Equal Opportunities as laid down within the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy. < i>Work within the Annualised hour’s scheme: working 43 hours per week from March through to October and 37 hours per week November to March. Hours accumulated to be taken as leave between November and March. < i>Responding to emergencies (including evenings, weekends and bank holidays): staff will be expected to be able to assist the Council in its response to emergencies on instruction from management. This includes instances such as flooding (sandbagging), snow (town centre clearances), storms (tree removal). Staff would be placed on a standby rota.
- Grass cutting activities using both hand held and ride on equipment to open spaces, schools etc.
- Assist with grave digging and cemetery related tasks when suitable training has been provided, e.g. machine operator, manual handling.
- Maintain horticultural features inclusive of shrub bed and areas of annual bedding.
- Carry out the marking and maintenance of various sports facilities.
- Undertake landscaping of open spaces.
- Arboriculture work.
- Empty litter bins and carry out litter picking to open spaces, verges and hard surfaces (reactive or proactive/scheduled).
- Respond to fly-tipping service requests ensuring the correct process is followed for evidence collation.
- Ensure that vehicles are kept clean and that daily safety inspections are carried out.
- Ensure that all plant and machinery is used in accordance with manufacturer's advice and instruction.
- Carry out other duties and works to provide services for the Authority and commensurate with the terms and conditions.
- Hold a clean driving licence.
- Have related experience within a similar environment as described within this role.
- Have a good understanding of Health and Safety issues plus the ability to abide by the Authority’s agreed policies and procedures. < i>Have experience and be able to work as part of a team.
- Are able to work without close supervision.
- Be able to self-motivate.
- Have pride in the quality of your work to ensure a quality service is provided.
- Good communication skills.
- Have a willingness to undertake any relevant training.
- Flexible and able to work outside the core hours to meet the needs of the service when required, including covering Bank Holidays.
- Welsh Language desirable.

As a Groundworker your role will involve carrying out all aspects of general Groundwork which includes: fencing, slabbing and basic carpentry repairs and maintenance to Social Housing properties, ensuring all work is undertaken to a high standard with the minimum of supervision.
Ideally, you'll be able to cover most aspects of property maintenance, you will take ownership of work, aiming for 'First time Fix' on all jobs, operating within Health and Safety guidelines, and remaining within budget and time parameters.
Accountabilities:
- Completing reactive maintenance work and replacements as per the specification, working in a timely and productive manner.
- Advising Supervisor in a timely manner when other trades are required
- Working in partnership with other operatives to complete projects.
- Recording and submitting accurate data using relevant business systems electronic devices
- Affording excellent customer service to client representatives
- Arranging purchase of materials required to deliver the works in a planned and efficient manner
- Comply with safeguarding policy and H&S standards at all times
- Operating within the company's occupational road risk policies and procedures
Essential and Desirable Criteria
Essential:
- Extensive experience in Ground Works
- Cat and Genny trained
- Experience in covering a number of trades and waste management
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Social Housing Experience
- NVQ2 in Bricklaying
- NVQ2 Building Maintenance Operative
Additionally:
- You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity as there will be frequent use of hand tools
- You may be required to work at height or uneven ground
- You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction
