Hardware Engineer
Location: Stone, Staffordshire(On-site – 5 days per week)
Salary: Market Related
Type: Full-time, Permanent
VIQU has partnered with a leading organisation in the nuclear sector to recruit a Hardware Engineer . This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a highly regulated and safety-critical environment, contributing to the design and delivery of complex electrical systems for industrial automation and control.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Design electrical control panels, PLC systems, and low-voltage distribution systems for industrial applications
-
Design electrical cabling and containment systems in line with project and industry standards
-
Produce and maintain detailed drawings and documentation using AutoCAD Electrical
-
Ensure designs comply with BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and IEC / BS EN (phone number removed) (Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies)
-
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during the full lifecycle of projects, including installation and commissioning
-
Travel to and stay at customer sites as required for project delivery and support
Key Requirements:
-
Proven experience designing electrical panels, PLC systems, LV distribution systems, and electrical infrastructure
-
Knowledge of electrical cabling and containment system design
-
Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical
-
Strong understanding of BS7671 (18th Edition) and relevant low-voltage switchgear/controlgear standards
-
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
-
Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers
Desirable Skills:
-
Background in a highly regulated industry such as nuclear, defence, or aerospace
-
Knowledge of EMC compliance and associated design practices
-
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards it)

Our client based in Guildford are looking for candidates who must have a strong academic background typically with a first class degree or PhD in a numerate subject such as physics, engineering or maths. We look for candidates with the aptitude to learn quickly and take on our customers’ most challenging problems. We help our staff develop the skills they need through on-the-job training coupled with readily available support and guidance
The Candidate:
- be self-motivating, capable of working independently li>have a good (1st/2.1) first degree or a PhD in a numerate discipline
- have a strong academic background typically including A*'s in A-level Maths and Physics
- have strong verbal and written presentation skills
- have knowledge of at least one of the following areas: FPGA development in VHDL
- PCB design and layout
- software development in embedded C/C++.
The candidate will be responsible for:
- simulating and implementing signal, image, or data processing algorithms in VHDL for FPGAs
- designing PCBs using FPGAs, SoCs, high speed network interfaces and analogue/RF signal filtering
- performing schematic capture using OrCAD
- managing PCB layout, fabrication and assembly subcontractors
- setting to work PCBs including writing test firmware and software
- developing Linux device drivers for hardware.

My client designs & manufactures electronic equiptment for the music industry. They are revolutionising thieir design techniques, and expanding their R&D team.
They are lookign for electronic engineers with experience and/or keen interest in the music indsutry to become a leading engineer in pioneering a new range of exciting products.
Main duties:
+ Electronic analogue & digital circuit & PCB design
+ Debug, test, and measurement of design
+ Design of final product, working with external production partners
Skills and Experience Required:
+ Prior experience in an audio electronics design role
+ 3+ years experience designing analogue electronics
+ Knowledge of PCB design using Altium or Fusion360
+ Knowledge of EMC compliance standards & regulations
Bonus:
+ Experience in the whole product life cycle of digital electronics & knowledge of high-speed peripherals
+ Ability to play guitar or any other digital instrument (keyboard etc.)
What you’ll get:
+ £45-55k starting salary, with annual pay rises for inflation, and regular performance related pay reviews
+ Option to work mainly remotely, with occasional office visits
