Purpose of the role
To manage and lead the Hardware Engineering Team for:
- The hardware design and development of electronics hardware in-line with Flusso’s product roadmap and to meet the requirements of customer design-in projects
- Provide a hands-on contribution to:
- Specification of Hardware designs and Software/Firmware interfaces from Systems Requirements
- Hardware design and development
- Debugging hardware/firmware platforms
- Development of in-house test firmware/software
Occasional international travel (Europe, US and Asia) will be required for working with customers and business partners. Typically trip duration will be a few days to a week.
Responsibilities
Line management and leadership of the Hardware Engineering Group
- Manage a team ofHardware design engineers and Electronics assembly and test technicians
- Managing priorities and workloads of reports within the context of company requirements
- Regular meetings with reports to ensure communication, performance and mentoring needs are met and perform annual performance reviews
- Team leadership and contribution to the Management Team
- Responsibility for the CAD tool flow and management and introduction of appropriate hardware processes
Hardware Design
- Ensuring that specifications for design work is sufficient and approved
- Especially interfaces to Mechanical components and Firmware
- Manage hardware design and development including:
- Designs are complete, documented, reviewed and manufactured to the applicable Flusso and external standards (e.g. safety, EMC)
- In-house sensor test platforms
- Interface adapters (USB-I2C, USB-CAN etc.)
- Sensor electronics modules (for in-house use, products and evaluation kits)
- Mechanical fixtures for Electronic Hardware
- PCB and PCBA manufacture at service providers
- Managing and Communicating design status
- Contributing to Hardware Design work and bring-up at the system level and providing Firmware support where required.
- Contributing to the selection and management of external contract manufacturers and transition of designs to volume manufacturing.
Manage the electronics engineering lab
- Lab facility layout, organisation and capability to meet the business’s needs
- Equipment maintenance, Health and Safety and waste management
- Managing component and material stocks
General
- Ensure compliance to Flusso’s ISO9001 & 14001 certifications and Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Peer review of reports and documentation
Requirements
Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience
A bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science subject is a prerequisite.
Essential knowledge, skills & experience:
- Background as a hardware engineer with experience of digital and analogue design. Competent with schematic capture and layout CAD tools (and their libraries) and liaising with PCB fabrication and assembly houses to ensure successful builds.
- Line management leadership of a hardware engineering group
- Development within a quality management system using appropriate documentation and design/source control tools
- Project planning and execution
- Effective collaboration with other Engineering groups, especially firmware and any mechanical design.
- Working with customers and effective collaboration with colleagues in Sales and Marketing
- Design of high volume, cost-sensitive products and liaison with contract manufacturers
Would be a distinct advantage:
- Developing hardware for sensor products and understanding the firmware required to support them
- Familiarity with sensor testing methods and the support infrastructure required
- Development of products for Automotive, Medical or safety-critical applications.

About The Role
Riverlane's Local Clustering Decoder (LCD) is at the forefront of quantum error correction, capable of decoding surface code quantum memory experiments in under 1 microsecond per round of syndrome extraction - fast enough to keep up with today's fastest superconducting qubits.
Its architecture already supports a wide variety of logical qubit operations that will be essential for the fault-tolerant quantum computers of the near future. As an Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for investigating and implementing architectural optimisations that unlock greater flexibility and performance in the LCD decoder. Your work will help ensure this system meets the demands of next-generation quantum hardware, expected to come online within the next five years.

We’re looking for a skilled Hardware Design Engineer to join a client’s innovative team developing market-leading processor-based products with the latest pre-release components.
What the role involves:
- Designing and developing digital hardware and firmware
- Creating schematics and PCB layouts
- Supporting design reviews and verification testing
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality hardware solutions
What you need:
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related field
- Strong skills in high-speed digital circuit design
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Desirable experience: PC motherboard architecture, FPGA, embedded software, Intel/ARM chipsets
