As a Healthcare Assistant at Roxburgh House care home, you’ll assist residents enjoy each day by making sure they get the quality care and support they deserve. You’ll assist with daily living, providing support and companionship.

Where will I be working?
You will be working in our service in Broadstairs where we support 4 individuals. We offer a 24-hour supported living facility in providing support for adults with Learning Disabilities. We tailor our support to enable people to be as independent as possible.
Support Workers are linked to work with a specific person based on shared preferences and personalities creating a bespoke core team of staff. At this service, we are specifically recruiting for one individual who you will primarily be supporting.
Days can consist of supporting this individual to meet with friends or family, accessing health professionals, housework, shopping, day trips, cooking, holidays. Supporting the individual with indoor activities such as playing with dolls and make up, building life skills and independence.
Female support worker required. Driver preferred. Experience with working with individuals with autism and learning disabilities essential.
People that we support here have a mixture of communication, mobility and health needs and this would be described as a quiet but active environment. This location is perfect for access to local transport being close to the train station and bus routes, with the local town and seaside just up the road.
Shift Pattern:
This is a 24-hour service therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00 pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00 pm, sleep ins or waking nights, some weekends.
Please note that working hours may vary from service to service.
** sleep ins are not required in all services
***not all colleagues will work overtime and therefore potential earnings will differ

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
- Promoting the independence of the people we support
- Supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
- Arranging activities in the home and in the local community
- Developing residents' life skills and personal interests
- Helping residents stay safe and healthy
- Assisting with personal care needs
- Manual handling
- Supporting people with medication
- Ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements

What skills and qualities do I need to have?
Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:
- Passionate, caring and enthusiastic
- Flexible, patient and non-judgemental
- A great team player with lots of energy
- Able to demonstrate good communication skills
- Able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed

The rota pattern for this role is as follows, which works out as 19hrs per week, over a 2-week rota pattern:
Week 1: Monday and Tuesday, 9am to 4pm
Week 2: Sleep-in, 24hr shift – Monday 4pm to Tuesday 4pm (please note that sleep-in hours between 10pm to 7am are paid at £12.21 per hour)
You would be expected to be flexible so you can cover other support workers in times of sickness or holidays.
About the Client & Your Responsibilities
Our client is a warm and sociable man who lives with learning disabilities and epilepsy and requires full-time care in his own home. He thrives on interaction and enjoys being around people. He is very tactile and appreciates close, engaging support. He especially loves spending time with his support workers reading books, playing games and jigsaws and going on trips into the community. Keeping him entertained, stimulated and socially engaged is a key part of the role.
As our clients PA, you will also provide personal care and assist with day-to-day tasks around the home, including preparing and cooking meals and carrying out general domestic duties.
The ideal person for this role will be warm, patient and adaptable, being able to work both independently and as part of a team. No two days are the same, so you will need to think on your feet and use your initiative to ensure our client remains healthy, safe and happy in his environment.
RequirementsTraining & Support
We provide comprehensive, paid training (to CQC standards) before your start date, covering: Full induction Safeguarding Adults First Aid / Food Hygiene / Health & Safety / Medication Care Needs
Falls Awareness / Mental Capacity Act & DOLs / PBS Learning Disability / Epilepsy Awareness / Autism Awareness / Oliver McGowan
All training must be completed prior to start date and is paid at minimum wage.
Who We’re Looking For
ü Driver with a full UK licence
ü Previous experience with epilepsy and knowledge of seizures is essential
ü A patient, caring, respectful attitude
ü A compassionate, reliable, and committed individual
ü Commitment to long-term, person-centred care
ü Ability to cover in times of sickness and holidays
It would also be an advantage if you have previous care experience and a knowledge of epilepsy, though this is not essential as training is provided.
