The Highways Engineer will take the lead in designing along with the delivery of any assigned work. The works will include major planned and responsive maintenance on footways, drainage and carriageways and you'll be part of these collaborative design teams based in Aylesbury Buckinghamshire.

Within Buckinghamshire Highways we have several new permanent positions that will help us to continue to keep the highways network safe while supporting the economic growth of the county. These posts will contribute to by allowing us to effectively maintain and improve our highways assets including drainage, footways, carriageways, street furniture and structures.

Your purpose:
  • Working on a wide variety of highway projects at all stages of project lifecycle from in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and best practice.
  • Working in a BIM level 2 environment accredited to BS 1192 using Autodesk Civils 3D, AutoCAD and other engineering software, such as Micro-drainage, for specialist applications.
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models (as and where applicable).
  • Providing technical support to graduates, assistant engineers, and technicians, checking and reviewing their work.
  • Engaging with all stakeholders including clients, contractors, customers and other designers.
  • Preparing technical documents and drawings for checking and approval.
  • Agreeing delivery targets with senior staff and report regularly on progress towards milestones.
  • Managing the delivery of your own projects and supporting project managers along with the mentoring others.

What you can bring:
  • BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), and Incorporated Engineer would be an advantage.
  • Proven capability in highway engineering design (experience in highway drainage design will be an advantage).
  • Good knowledge and experience in the design of highway schemes.
  • Be aware of the philosophy and practice of Health and Safety in civil engineering design and construction.
  • The ability to work under your own initiative and to seek advice when necessary.

Role Purpose:

The role sits within the Engineering team in on the M25 DBFO undertaking a variety of Highway renewal designs.

The position involves working on one of Europe's busiest and most strategically important road networks. As such, this scheme requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work together and coordinate with different teams effectively.

Your purpose:
  • The role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and refining design packages consisting of drawings and works specification for various renewal schemes including (but not limited to) filter drains, network drainage, signage, fencing and VRS. This will be aligned with asset management and client requirements.
  • You will be responsible for preparing documentation to discharge the duties of the CDM 2015 Principal Designer and creating specifications for works.
  • You will be responsible for applying quality management processes and manage the quality of outputs, including adherence to standards and process compliance with the M25 DBFO Contract.
  • You will be working directly with the technical specialist and commercial leads in the Engineering and other CPS teams to achieve agreed programmes and key milestones. Responsible for building strong relationships in a cross-functional collaborative team.
  • Responsible for providing progress updates, programme management and reporting of assigned work.
  • Accountable for the scheduling and chairing of performance, technical and commercial review meetings.
  • Responsible for providing information to the commercial team to enable them to produce cost estimates.
