What we are looking for:

  • Possess 2 years’ experience working in UK development-related infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience in preparing highways or drainage designs, particularly S38, S278, and S104 processes.
  • Background in writing flood risk assessments or drainage strategies.
  • Proficient in drainage design principles and skilled in using Microdrainage and/or Causeway Flow software.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Understanding of relevant UK design standards, including DMRB, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, and national planning policies
  • Skilled in in AutoCAD and Civils 3D.
  • Full UK driving licence.

My client is looking for an ambitious professional who is ready to take ownership of design, implementation, and delivery of a variety of maintenance and improvement schemes. This role is integral to supporting the efficient delivery of capital and revenue-funded highways projects. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will use an asset management approach to inform the design and planning of works, ensure adherence to NEC4 contractual procedures, and play a key part in supporting public safety and infrastructure sustainability.


The main duties of the Highway Engineer are:


·Deliver and manage highway improvement and maintenance schemes from concept through to completion.
·Act as Designer/CDM Co-ordinator in compliance with CDM regulations.
·Prepare tender documents, contracts, and technical drawings for highway works.
·Manage NEC4 Option A & C Target Cost contracts, from raising works orders to completion and final account.
·Supervise contractors on-site and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
·Contribute to long-term planning of the highway network in line with national and regional transport strategies.
·Monitor and update asset inventories for bridges and highway structures.
·Attend meetings with the public, Parish Councils, and other stakeholders to provide technical advice and gather feedback.
·Assist with highway emergencies, winter maintenance, and adverse weather response as part of a rota system.


The Highway Engineer will have key experience in:


·A minimum of HNC or ONC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and substantial related experience.
·Experience in designing and delivering highway improvement or maintenance schemes.
·Strong understanding of NEC4 Option C contract procedures.
·Familiarity with DfT highway design standards and asset management principles.
·Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and associated systems for highways design.
·Competence in assembling Bills of Quantities and preparing written technical reports.
·Knowledge of NRSWA requirements and CDM Regulations.
·Experience of preparing documentation for tendering and awarding contracts.
·Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with an ability to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About the Role:
