The Best Connection is currently seeking reliable and hardworking Outdoor Horticultural Workers to join our client's friendly plant nursery team for the busy rose harvesting season. If you enjoy physical, outdoor work and being part of a supportive hands-on environment, this is the role for you!







About the Role:

You'll be working outdoors in the fields, helping with the harvesting of rose root plants during the winter months. This is a physically demanding role that involves digging roses from the ground using forks, as well as working alongside tractors and pulling machinery to lift the crops.

The work will run from October through to March (with a break over Christmas), and every day will bring a new challenge as you play a vital part in the production process at this well-established nursery.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Digging roses from the ground by hand using forks
  • Assisting with tractor and pulling machine operations for rose lifting
  • Preparing and maintaining harvested plants
  • Following health and safety procedures at all times
  • Working as part of a friendly, supportive team to meet daily targets


What We're Looking For:

  • Previous outdoor, horticultural, farming, or landscaping experience is an advantage
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions (cold, wet, muddy fields)
  • Good physical fitness and stamina (role is hands-on and active)

Our client is one of the largest garden centres businesses in the country they are now seeking a Horticultural Manager/Plant Manager for a site they have in Northampton.

Ideally you will have Horticultural and supervisory knowlege, either from a garden centre, seasonal retail, or nursery enviornment.

Working in the plant area is a high volume environment with a fast turnaround. The successful candidate should be physically fit as this is a very hands on role. A good knowledge of plants is essential to the role as is good customer service and a high standard of visual merchandising.

The successful candidate will preferably possess either a horticultural qualification, will be in training or had practical horticultural experience

Duties include:

Actively working in the daily horticultural tasks of the Centre.
Assisting the Centre Manager to maximise sales and profit by ensuring the efficient and effective management to Company standards, of the commerciality, merchandising, replenishment and housekeeping across the Garden Centre.
Establish and maintain high horticultural and retail standards.
Manage and support overall plant health within the Centre.
Lead and motivate the staff in their team.
Manage stock control of the department.
Support Centre Manager in daily H&S tasks and paperwork, ensuring Health & Safety standards are always adhered to and maintained.
Generate ideas and assist in the development of even better methods of working within the department.
Help to achieve a high standard of customer service.
Assist with complaints and queries from staff and customers.
Assist where needed with the recruitment, training, development and individual performance of staff within the Centre to a high standard.
Carry out additional duties as and when required such as managing store and to attend events in the absence of the Centre Manger.
Assist when needed to effectively and efficiently plan and manage key events such as Christmas, Bank Holidays and Season Centre change
