About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Engineer to join our e-commerce technology team. This role is responsible for building, maintaining, and securing the infrastructure supporting our customer-facing web applications and the core services that power our business.

The ideal candidate will combine strong Linux system administration expertise with a deep understanding of AWS services, networking, and application-level troubleshooting.

This position requires strong analytical thinking, initiative, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning multiple layers of the stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient AWS infrastructure for customer-facing applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents across web servers, databases, containers, and networking layers.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure high performance, availability, and reliability of applications.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure as code
  • Manage server configuration
  • Participate in an on-call rota and provide operational support for critical systems.
  • Continuously improve automation, monitoring, and system observability.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Linux administration experience
  • Strong understanding of AWS core services
  • Good understanding in networking concepts
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation preferred; Terraform acceptable).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Chef preferred).
  • Practical experience with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Ability to code in at least one scripting language (Bash, Python, Ruby, or Go).
  • Familiarity with Windows-based systems (IIS, Active Directory) beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think end-to-end across systems and services.

As our Lead AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in configuring, managing, and optimising our cloud services. We've made excellent progress to date with the migration and (95%) optimisation our enterprise applications into AWS. You'll provide technical leadership for the migration of our remaining on-premise infrastructure and digital services to the cloud, supporting the wider digital programme whilst championing the latest AWS services and promoting a DevOps culture. You'll work closely with our architects and the digital leadership team to ensure our services are secure, resilient, optimised and aligned with industry best practice and government standards.

You will be instrumental in shaping our cloud strategy, automating deployments, and ensuring the optimal performance of our services across major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
