About The Role

To effectively carry out servicing and inspections of machinery ensuring we deliver a first class service to both internal & external customers. To actively seek revenue opportunities and discuss these with customers, Customer Support Representative’s and your Line Manager. 

What you will be doing:

  • Carry out maintenance servicing and inspections on Volvo construction equipment and miscellaneous equipment, submitting detailed inspection reports in a timely manner.  
  • Ensure work is carried out to high standards, delivering exceptional customer service. 
  • Ensure all work is checked & tested with a keen eye to detail & high quality of work carried out, at all times.   
  • Carry out all work in line with quotations and time guides, highlighting to management where additional work may be required.   
  • Complete product updates / campaign work as instructed by the CSA Planners.  
  • Accurately complete systems/paperwork, including but not limited to oil sample reports, Matris readouts, component failure reports, Service Inspection Reports.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as and when required and to honour reasonable call out requests. 
  • Work in accordance with SMTGB standards for health, safety, quality and environmental care.

Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

    • Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction plant. 
    • Be able to drive and handle heavy construction machinery in a safe and efficient manner. 
    • Be able to understand some technical literature, Inc service manuals, service bulletins and parts books. 
    • Ability to communicate efficiently with colleagues, management and customers. 
    • Basic computer skills and ability to use email. 
    • High standards and attention to detail.

As a Preventative Maintenance Engineer , you will play a crucial role in maximizing the operational availability of equipment for our customers. You’ll work closely with the controller to ensure timely and efficient routine and preventative maintenance servicing, while also identifying potential issues that could impact availability. Major Job Functions:
  • Preventative Maintenance Servicing: Carry out routine servicing of equipment in line with manufacturers' guidelines, including taking routine oil samples (75%)
  • Machine Inspection: Conduct visual and mechanical analysis of machine conditions, identifying developing issues with systems and components (20%)
  • Minor Repairs: Complete minor repairs identified during inspections, install telematic systems, and perform undercarriage inspections (5%)

Working Conditions:

This is a field-based role, and it’s essential that all drivers have held a full driving license for at least 2 years. (Eligibility will be subject to a full DVLA license check)

Working Hours: 43 hours per week with flexible start and finish times. Monday to Friday, with one Saturday in three at an overtime rate.

Specific Skills Required:

A basic knowledge of the four main product elements (Engines, Hydraulics, Powertrain, and Vehicle Electrics/Electronics) is essential for servicing and repairing heavy mobile plant or similar vehicles (e.g., Heavy Goods Vehicles).

Accountability:

You will be responsible for:

  • Attending customer locations as directed by the controller to carry out preventive maintenance servicing.
  • Liaising with the service controller and customers throughout the process.
  • Ensuring all work meets high standards and that equipment is safe before returning it to the customer.
  • Completing all associated paperwork accurately and promptly, including recording customer signatures.
  • Caring for company vehicles and equipment.
Education and Experience:

We welcome candidates with:

  • Direct experience (around 3 years) in a related engineering function (e.g., car mechanic, HGV fitter, Agricultural Engineer, former REME) or
  • A formal apprenticeship qualification that includes at least C&G level 1. Health & Safety training is desirable but not essential, as further training will be provided.
