About the role
We are currently recruiting for a multi-skilled or electrically biased Maintenance Technicians to the join the Engineering Team at our Portbury production facility in Bristol. The facility is a dried blending and mixing production facility where we create flavour blends for some of the world's best loved brands, 100's of tonnes of product are precisely measured, mixed and packaged every week.
This is a permanent position, with a 3 or 4 shift pattern – AM/PM/Nights/Days
Key Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Technician you will be responsible for:
- Complying with the health and safety policy and regulations.
- Resolving breakdowns, carryout PM’s and work on project / improvement works with a view to minimizing production downtime.
- Carrying out risk assessments with the relevant people and put controls in place to minimise the risk to acceptable levels where reasonably practicable.
- Lock off any dangerous machinery immediately/ or repair and notify.
- Actively seek to undertake PMs on offline machinery where time allows.
- Fully complete PM sheets with all observations, jobs completed and recommendations and file with the Maintenance Planner, whilst always looking at ways of improving to PMs.
- Actively gain as much information as possible from production personnel regarding the fault on the machine to speed up the fault-finding process.
- Ensure engineering log and computer systems are fully filled in with all relevant information including PM numbers, all used parts, plant numbers, urgency of required parts, at the end of each shift.
- Ensure all communications with external persons are conducted in a professional manner which reflects the company profile.
Qualifications, skills and experience
To be successful in this role we are looking for the right behaviours and competencies as well as a proven track in a similar position. The ideal candidate will ideally have the following:
- HNC, City & Guilds or time served apprentice with appropriate electrical engineering qualifications.
- Experience within a similar role ideally gained within a food manufacturing environment, if not food, experience within any manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
- Electrically or biased, or multi-skilled. PLC experience highly desirable.
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems experience highly desirable
- Flexible approach with a positive 'can-do' attitude.
- Experience of SAP highly desirable.

What you will do
The role of the onsite Service engineer for a high-profile commercial client in Bristol. Lead/ coordinate teams to develop process improvement; work with technical management colleagues / product management on technical bulletins; liaise with Process Excellence on process improvement projects.
Provide technical support and guidance across all field based staff; identifying common issues, their root cause, resolution and supporting development of mistake proofed solutions.
Site reviews and site/ technical audits to ensure compliance with appropriate standards and excellence in customer solutions.
Supporting internal audits, non-conformance follow up and resolution; supporting retention of accreditations (ISO 9001 etc).
Provide pre-installation support to operational teams with regard to software and front end graphics packages to ensure best/innovative use of the company product portfolio.
Develop/ maintain nationwide skills matrix by means of regular training/skills assessment with engineers to support operational excellence.
Assist new and future products to ensure that all training and quality issues are assessed and the appropriate training roll out identified.
Support apprentice manager in the recruitment, development and assessment of the operational apprentices and assist in the development of a common learning platform.
Assist in the development of base competencies for sales and operations to comply with regulations, drive operational improvements and improve customer service.
Liaison with Learning and Development to develop innovative delivery of technical courses to the field operatives.
Support delivery and maintenance of the Engineer Development Review process to ensure a consistent approach to reviewing the competency levels of all engineers.
Liaison with the IT department to provide development support in the use of modern software to assist the field operatives in terms of quality and operational.
Provide input to Marketing and Purchasing as appropriate on product deficiencies experienced in the field.
Support the management of Zero Harm culture across the business through Quarterly meetings, ensure compliance with audits and appropriate follow ups.
Provide or support tool box talks, safety training and observations from field audits.
Support where there are actual incidents, near misses.
What we look for
Experience in the security industry.
IOSH Managing Safely required.
Proven ability to problem solve in an electro technical environment.
Knowledge of varied types of Intruder, Fire, CCTV, Access Control and EAS Systems, both wired and radio based.
Experience in the Quality and H&S Auditing of staff. H&S site experience such as SSSTS (CITB) Certification.
Excellent communication at Senior Management Level and Customer Communication. Ability to take the initiative on decision making and think quickly. Be proactive with new ideas to improve the Quality Management and increase productivity.

Security Systems Installation Engineer
Within this role you join an experienced team where you will utilise your skills in installing advanced security solutions including CCTV, access control, intruder alarm systems and other security related systems. You would be responsible for installing first and second fix of electronic equipment and associated infrastructure at our client sites.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Working within the Project Delivery engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Manager.
- Installing security systems to a high standard.
- Comply with company procedures and H&S policies.
- Collaborate with customers and project managers during installations.
- Support junior engineers, and run small works autonomously.
- Complete project-related paperwork timely.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Background in technical security systems (CCTV, IDS, PIDS, AACS, Intercoms etc.).
- Experience in cable installation (LV, ELV, data cabling (copper & fibre optic).
- Proficient in first and second fix tasks (e.g., conduit/containment, edge devices fixing, cable termination).
- Ability to learn new systems and technologies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
- IT literate.
- UK driving licence.
Desirable Knowledge
- Minimum 4 years' experience within the technical security industry.
- Background in electrical engineering with relevant qualifications (e.g., City and Guilds, IEE 18th Edition).
- Knowledge of IP networking.
