The Role
As a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of mechanical systems, with a strong focus on HVAC solutions . You will work closely with clients, architects, and other engineers to provide efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable building services designs from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and specification of mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), hot and cold water, and public health systems. li>Production of detailed design drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure coordination of MEP services.
- Conducting calculations and using design software such as Hevacomp, IES, or Revit (BIM).
- Supporting project delivery across multiple sectors, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to high quality standards.
- Engaging with clients and attending design meetings to provide technical input.
- Contributing to sustainable and low-carbon design solutions.
About You
- Degree or HNC/HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Previous experience in building services consultancy or contractor design role.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and wider mechanical building services solutions.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for delivering sustainable, energy-efficient solutions.

- Create private land notice plans in accordance with the clients’ processes and specification.
- Liaising with the client ensuring the site investigation, design and construction phases runs according to plan and providing regular detailed updates to the Project Manager and the client.
- Work alongside the Project Manager/ Operations Manager/ Design Manager to ensure all schemes are designed within budget and within the time constraints set by the client.
Experience and Qualifications
- Engineering qualifications desirable however good experience would be considered.
- Experience of working in the water industry on clean/wastewater projects
- Understanding and knowledge of relevant Engineering specifications that apply to the water industry
- Knowledge and Awareness of CDM 2015
- Proficient user of AutoCAD
- Competent in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experienced or willingness to training in the use of GNSS/GPS surveying equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and to organise your workload across multiple projects
- Willingness to mentor and support less experienced colleagues
