Your role: The Head of Strategic Analysis will oversee the commercial performance of The Times and The Sunday Times, leading the trading, pricing, and propositions strategy to drive sustainable revenue growth.
This is a senior leadership role at the heart of our subscription growth strategy. You will be accountable for shaping and leading pricing, trading, and long-term planning to drive revenue, profitability and customer lifetime value. You will influence decision-making at the highest levels, partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance, Marketing, Product and Editorial to ensure our pricing and planning decisions deliver on the long-term ambitions of The Times and The Sunday Times.
The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial acumen with deep analytical expertise and the ability to inspire and influence at executive level.
You will manage a small but high-impact team (Senior Pricing & Propositions Manager and Planning & Pricing Analyst), ensuring pricing, offers, and trading levers are optimised across the subscription lifecycle.
As maternity cover, you will ensure continuity in strategy, execution, and reporting, while delivering insight-driven initiatives that maximise subscriber lifetime value, revenue, and retention
Day to day you will:
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and coach the Strategic Pricing & Planning team (Senior Manager + Analyst), ensuring delivery of high-quality analysis and impactful pricing/proposition initiatives.
- Act as the senior commercial point of contact for trading, pricing, subscription performance and strategic growth initiatives, reporting regularly to executive leadership.
- Set the agenda for pricing and propositions testing, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and aligned with commercial targets.
Trading & Performance Management
- Monitor and make recommendations on trading performance across all channels (traffic, acquisition, retention, reactivation).
- Oversee performance tracking, and scenario modelling to inform decision-making.
- Shape and deliver strategic analytics to track and assess the long-term health of the subscriber base beyond weekly trading metrics.
Pricing & Propositions
- Develop the end-to-end pricing and proposition roadmap, from research and modelling through to delivery and performance tracking.
- Establish pricing governance processes, including the running of the pricing committee and evaluation of test outcomes.
- Align pricing strategies across acquisition, in-life, and retention stages to maximise subscriber LTV.
- Maintain pricing governance framework, ensuring pricing and proposition performance aligns to business objectives.
- Support the development of new subscription propositions, bundles, and premium products for different customer segments.
Insight & Analysis
- Ensure robust, automated reporting on key KPIs (revenue, churn, engagement, LTV).
- Oversee deep-dive analysis into customer behaviour, pricing tests, and market benchmarking.
- Translate complex insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.
What we’re looking for from you:
- Proven senior experience in trading, pricing, propositions, or strategic analysis, ideally in media, publishing, or digital subscriptions.
- Strong commercial acumen with P&L or revenue ownership.
- Exceptional ability to interpret and present data, turning complex analysis into clear and actionable insights.
- Proven success leading teams, coaching direct reports, and managing stakeholders at all levels.
- Comfortable building business cases and financial models to support pricing or proposition decisions.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership.
- Strong understanding of LTV, churn, retention metrics, and subscription lifecycle dynamics.
- Ability to balance commercial and customer perspectives, translating insights into effective pricing and growth strategies.
Highly analytical mindset with the ability to think strategically and drive tangible business outcomes.
- Experience with SQL, BigQuery, or advanced data tools is beneficial (not essential).
- Communication and influencing skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships.
