Job Description
About the job you're considering
We are looking to fill a number of mid and senior level interaction design roles.
As an Interaction Designer, you will play a critical role in delivering user-centred designs that meets the needs of our public sector client. You will also have the opportunity to work for other clients in government and the private sector. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and deliver designs that are accessible, understandable, and aligned with the Government Digital Service (GDS) standards. Your work will span various projects within the UK Government, requiring a strong understanding of agile methodologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
Hybrid working
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time and will be expected to work from a Capgemini office a minimum of 2-days a week, and willing to travel as required by the role.
To be considered, candidates must be based in the UK and have existing permission to work in the UK. Sponsorship will not be provided. If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including: identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service).
Your role
The services we co-create are often transformational – the solution may not be obvious and the landscape is complex, so we are looking for individuals who can make sense where there is very little framework or direction.
You will be expected to design and present concepts and user interfaces – including annotations for best practice in information architecture, navigation, and user flows. Use different techniques to identify and understand users and their needs, so that you can translate user stories and propose user-focused, evidence-based design approaches to meet these needs.
Design accessible and impactful products and services.
Employ a wide range of skills, interviewing users, creating detailed plans, understanding data, facilitating workshops, presenting research findings and more.
Visualise, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence.
Apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design interactive prototypes, for both products and services.
In addition, you can understand and resolve design-centric disputes across varying levels of complexity and risk. You can work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and use an iterative method and flexible approach to enable rapid Agile delivery.
You can communicate effectively across organisational and technical boundaries.
You can identify opportunities to create business value and improve the user experience. You will also contribute to the wider XD community and wider Capgemini.
Your skills and experience
Essential
• Experience working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards, using GDS design principles
• Grounding in user-centred design, from concept to final delivery
• Knowledge of which tools, process, or methods to use and how to bring an agile delivery team along with you
• Ability to engage with development teams and architects to ensure data and technical considerations are accommodated within the design
• Evidence of working with user centred design colleagues to synthesise insights and act on the outcomes
• Experience of working with senior stakeholders to get their input and buy-in
• Experience using a range of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Invision, etc. and the ability to quickly learn new design tools as required.
• An empathetic approach and ability to listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them in a way that is clear for both audiences
• Ability to present designs and justify decisions you've made using an evidence-based approach
• Proven ability to create high-quality, compelling design concepts and artefacts such user flows, journey mapping, service maps and wireframes
• Understanding of what good digital services look like and how to design in an inclusive, accessible way
• Experienced in rapid paper and digital prototyping
• Ability to build prototypes using code to create dynamic prototypes using HTML, CSS, basic Javascript and the GOV.UK prototyping toolkit.
• Knowledge in GitHub, Heroku and node.js
• Experience facilitating workshops, managing, and undertaking research with users and communicate using personas, interactive prototypes, and user journeys
• Experience of managing, mentoring and supporting junior colleagues
Desirable
• Experience of leading design sessions and integrating diverse perspectives
• Understand the strategic context of your work and how it aligns with broader project goals.
• Experience of working in other sectors
• Consultancy experience and demonstrable experience of opening-up new account spaces
• Multi-disciplinary design skills set
Qualifications
• Relevant interaction design qualification is desirable
• Relevant professional certifications or equivalent experience
Your security clearance
To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to be eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance.
