We are looking for extraordinary people to join us as Lleol Foster Carers – including those who have worked as Crisis Intervention Workers , helping young people through intense emotional distress, trauma, or mental health challenges. If you’ve de-escalated crisis situations, offered immediate support and stabilisation, or advocated for vulnerable individuals in high-stress environments, your calm, compassionate presence could offer a child the one thing they need most — a safe and therapeutic home where they can begin to heal.

This is a specialist fostering role — supporting young people who are leaving high-support settings like residential care and helping them to transition to family life as smoothly as possible.

We take a therapeutic approach to professional parenting, giving you every opportunity to develop your skills through full training, exceptional support, and a team walking alongside you every step of the way.

• Have professional or personal experience in supporting children & young people

• Can provide a nurturing, therapeutic home environment

• Have at least one spare bedroom that can be dedicated to fostering

• Hold a full driving licence

• Are able to offer their full-time commitment to this role

• Can work as part of a professional team, attend meetings, and engage in training

• Are resilient, reflective, and ready to parent in a new and guided way

• Are open to registering as self-employed

• Providing direct emotional and practical support to service users via phone, video calls, and secure messaging platforms.
• Conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans for individuals in crisis.
• Offering crisis intervention, de-escalation, and emotional regulation support.

• NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent relevant qualification.

• Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of remote care professionals providing crisis intervention services.
• Develop and implement effective protocols for remote crisis assessment, intervention, and support.
• Manage complex caseloads and provide clinical guidance on challenging cases.
• Ensure the team adheres to all organizational policies, ethical guidelines, and professional standards.
• Monitor team performance, conduct regular supervision sessions, and facilitate professional development.
• Liaise with external agencies, mental health services, and community resources to coordinate care.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs for the care team.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with data protection regulations.
• Participate in on-call rotations as required.

• Relevant professional qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, or a related field (e.g., BA/BSc, MA/MSc).
• Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., SWE, NMC, BPS).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a care or mental health setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and risk assessment.
• Proven ability to manage and motivate a remote team.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Crisis Intervention Worker - Talking Spaces Service (Mental Health)  

Location: Working at multiple sites across Birmingham - Beechcroft Centre, Erdington, Grounded, Selly Oak and Grounded St Paul’s, Jewellery Quarter 

Salary: £25,231 (full time equivalent) £0,185 pro rata for 30 hours and 2,111 pro rata for 18 hours per week 

Hours: 30 and 18 hours per week available – various shift patterns between 1pm-11.00pm, over 5 days, including weekends

Listening to individuals in a crisis will be a key aspect of your role and involves focusing, observing, understanding, and responding with empathy, genuineness, respect, acceptance, non-judgment, and sensitivity. 

About you:  

We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience: 

• p>Previous experience working in the mental health field, with experience of supporting people to be in control of their lives either in a paid or voluntary capacity. 

• Knowledge and understanding of the social determinants that can lead to poor mental health. 

• A good working knowledge and understanding of current safeguarding legislation.

• Extensive knowledge of the local community within which you are working. 

• Excellent communication and team working skills and the ability to effectively utilise the technology available. 

• Good knowledge of both Microsoft Word and Outlook.

The Talking Space Service operates from 5pm to 11pm seven days a week throughout the year. Employees will work on a rota basis in our Erdington location.

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments via secure video conferencing and phone.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing severe psychological distress.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to meet the unique needs of service users.
• Offer evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including but not limited to CBT, DBT, and solution-focused brief therapy.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, social services, and community resources to ensure holistic care.
• Facilitate referrals to appropriate psychiatric services, inpatient facilities, or community support programs.
• Provide psychoeducation to individuals and their families regarding mental health conditions and coping strategies.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with professional standards and data protection regulations.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of service improvements and training initiatives.

• Registered Social Worker (e.g., with Social Work England, or equivalent Scottish/Welsh body).
• Post-graduate qualification or significant CPD in relevant areas of mental health (e.g., advanced mental health assessment, therapeutic interventions).
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualifying experience in adult mental health, with substantial experience in crisis intervention and acute care settings.
• Demonstrated expertise in a range of therapeutic approaches suitable for acute mental health needs.
• Excellent assessment, diagnostic, and risk management skills.
• Proficiency in using telehealth platforms and electronic record-keeping systems.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, make critical decisions rapidly, and manage complex caseloads remotely.
