The role
In this role, you will identify, investigate, and secure evidence of regulatory breaches and other applicable legislation. You will also develop and implement plans for proactive investigation, considering risk indicators to develop proposals for targeted proactive reviews.
As a Proactive Investigation Officer, you will conduct both desk-based and onsite investigations to protect the public interest and mitigate regulatory risks. You will lead site visits independently, gathering and analysing information and intelligence from multiple sources to identify potential misconduct, emerging themes, and regulatory risks, using sound judgment based on the SRA's Enforcement Strategy. Your responsibilities will include producing fair, accurate, and evidence-based reports to the highest standards of quality, making and articulating investigative decisions succinctly and clearly, and obtaining evidence from various sources during site visits.
Additionally, you will conduct interviews and obtain witness statements with solicitors, employees, and third parties in an authoritative and competent manner. You will manage and report on progress and key outcomes, represent the SRA at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and/or Courts, and explain changes within the regulated legal sector to solicitors and employees. You will also collaborate across functions, compile and cross-reference complex investigation files, and liaise with other regulators, law enforcement, and external agencies.

We are looking to recruit multiple Forensic Investigation Officers. The role is field based and requires travel.
The role
Working in this high-profile role, you will manage your own portfolio of cases, investigate financial discrepancies and inaccuracies and analyse complex information and data.
You will attend law firms throughout England and Wales to determine whether there has been serious professional misconduct, which includes breaches of the SRA Accounts Rules.
You will gather evidence, both remotely and onsite, interview key individuals and obtain witness statements. You will compile robust, easily readable and factual reports of the findings that will inform our regulatory decisions. This could lead us to take disciplinary proceedings or to close a law firm. You will also represent the SRA in court, giving evidence of your investigation's findings.
You will need to be able to review and analyse complex information, including numerical and accounting information, and documents relating to legal transactions. The role will require you to develop a strong understanding of our Standards and Regulations. This includes the SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules which set out how solicitors record and account for client money.

WSP's Structures Investigation Group (SIG) based in Exeter is growing because of an expanding workload. The projects undertaken cover a diverse range of highway and railway structures, usually bridges, however tunnels, towers, civic buildings and other structures are also inspected and investigated by our team when needed. WSP is looking to recruit an Assistant Engineer to join the team in Basingstoke and work on a variety of interesting and exciting projects.
You will be an integral part of the SIG project delivery team and will assist with the delivery of works to meet the client's brief. Your role will include planning, organising, execution and reporting on structural inspections and investigations. The team holds UKAS Accreditation for the condition assessment testing and sampling that it undertakes, you will assist in the development of procedures and maintenance / management of the specialist equipment we use.

+ Knowledge or experience of condition assessment testing and monitoring of structures would be particularly advantageous. Ideally you will have relevant experience in civil engineering
+ Knowledge of relevant software and standards used in the management of bridge assets would also be advantageous. Furthermore, knowledge of relevant bridge inspection related software & standards and proficiency in the production of engineering drawings and reports is highly desirable.
+ IT Literacy - Previous AutoCAD experience would be advantageous. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and manage geotechnical site investigations, including desk studies, intrusive site works (e.g., trial pits, boreholes), and in-situ testing.
- Oversee and guide field technicians during site investigation operations.
- Interpret geological and geotechnical data, including borehole logs, CPT results, and laboratory test outcomes.
- Undertake geotechnical analysis and design for foundations, earthworks, slope stability, and retaining structures.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, including factual and interpretative geotechnical reports, design reports, and risk assessments.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Provide technical advice and support throughout the project lifecycle, from conception to construction.
- Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development of junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
- Contribute to the business development and tendering process by assisting with proposals and fee bids.
- BEng/MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically in site investigation and analysis.
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
- Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio suite, KeyLog) is desirable.
- Proficiency in interpreting geological data and producing technical reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple site investigations concurrently.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the region.
- CSCS card or willingness to obtain one.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., ICE, Geological Society) is an advantage.
