Join Barclays’ QA Equity & Hybrid Products team as a QIS Platform Developer to support the next-generation Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) platform. Partnering with Trading, Structuring, Strats, and Technology, you will design and deliver high-performance, scalable tools, libraries, and frameworks that power innovative investment products, within a collaborative and intellectually demanding environment.

Accountabilities
  • Create and enhance platform tooling, libraries, and frameworks in Python and other languages as appropriate, delivering scalability, performance, and reliability.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) group within Asset & Wealth Management is responsible for managing client assets, and is a market leader in quantitative portfolio management. We use advanced quantitative methods to structure, manage, and monitor investment portfolios including Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and separately managed accounts. The ETF business within the QIS team is an important and rapidly growing area, and this role will play a central part in supporting and scaling that growth. Based in London within the Client Portfolio Management (CPM) team, this role will offer the independence to take ownership of client‑facing projects end‑to‑end—helping to build out the client servicing platform, authoring research on how our portfolios are positioned for changing market dynamics, and partnering across all functions within Asset Management to deliver an exceptional client experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as a key partner to senior Client Portfolio Managers in supporting and scaling a fast‑growing ETF business, with the independence to take ownership of projects end‑to‑end
  • Help shape and build out the client servicing and reporting platform for the QIS ETF business, identifying opportunities to enhance and automate how we engage with clients
  • Develop a strong understanding of equity market dynamics and author thought‑leadership and research on ETFs, articulating how our portfolios are positioned to navigate evolving market conditions
  • Contribute directly to client engagement by preparing materials and analysis for in‑depth client discussions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Role Purpose

Under guidance from the Head of Investment Strategy and Portfolio Manager, the role anchors LPPI’s fundamental market awareness and understanding of the different economic and market risks and opportunities to which our Partner Funds may be exposed. This role complements the work of the rest of the Investment Strategy team, whose role is to develop market and economic insights as well as investment processes to support the investment strategies of LPPI’s Partner Funds. As leader of LPPI’s thematic investment thinking, this role will support daily portfolio management, quarterly Investment Committee, quarterly ACM/IS review, quarterly client reporting, and potentially have external client and media visibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead macroeconomic and qualitative market researcher. Produce regular and ad hoc reporting to support LPPI’s investment process, market engagement and client communication.
  • Lead thematic research, maintaining perspective on the drivers of changes in the global economy and associated return drivers in liquid and private assets, as well as FX. Work with the wider team, asset class PMs and Investment Committee to build continuity and clarity of client total portfolio positioning.
  • Research and develop global macro themes and views published in flagship and ad-hoc publications, with the long-term vision of being able to drive the process of developing and producing original research and influencing asset allocation decisions.
  • Build and conceptualise tools and frameworks for internal analytical use.
  • Deliver global macro and thematic research views to internal and external clients.
  • Contribute to team discussions on global market views and asset allocation decisions.
  • Contribute to fundamental research of global asset classes.
  • Support the Head of Investment Strategy in developing the long-term investment strategy and recommending the most appropriate asset allocation to ensure that the investment portfolios meet LPPI’s Partner Funds’ long-term investment objectives.
  • Contribute to the oversight of the strategic and tactical asset allocation processes. This will include reviewing and providing feedback, alongside ensuring a consistent and high standard of macroeconomic analysis and modelling.
  • Work with the team to help deliver economic insights and investment recommendations to portfolio managers and the broader Investments team.
  • Support Portfolio Managers across Investments with research, modelling, and portfolio construction, in integrating investment strategy into asset class-specific investment decisions on an ad-hoc project basis.

Requirements for the role

  • Strong investment analysis and/or consulting experience with a focus on multi-asset solutions, liability-driven investments, and investment strategy
  • Strong investment market literacy, with experience in managing investment portfolios, ideally in the pension fund industry
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven track record of thinking strategically and driving a team culture that harnesses resources and development
  • Highly effective communication and relationship management skills, including personal credibility in delivering strategic information to peers and the Executive Committee to facilitate high-level decision making
  • Strong numeracy skills, with the ability to analyse, interpret and make recommendations based on complex and conflicting information
  • Demonstrable advanced people management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team through staff management processes. These include effective performance appraisals and implementing continuing learning and development plans to aid succession planning

  • Strong academic background, ideally with a study of economics

  • CFA designation would be an advantage, but is not essential
