**About the Role:**
Are you an experienced engineer eager to work at the intersection of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) in a highly regulated defence environment? We are seeking a skilled Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. This position offers the unique opportunity to design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge infrastructure for naval platform management systems, including both surface ships and submarines. You will play a critical role in both the development of the product and the provision and maintenance of the development environment itself, supporting mission-critical naval programmes.
In addition to integrating IT/OT systems, you will be responsible for the management of IT assets within the development environment, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards such as ISO27001 and IEC62443. This role is ideal for engineers familiar with Windows Server domains, Red Hat Linux, virtualisation, industrial networking, and working within regulated environments such as defence, energy, or critical infrastructure.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Product Development:**
+ **ICS Infrastructure Design:** Lead the design and deployment of infrastructure solutions for PMS, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across both surface ships and submarines.
+ **IT/OT Integration:** Develop and implement solutions that facilitate IT/OT convergence, integrating operational technology systems with IT infrastructure to enable efficient and secure data exchange between control systems and enterprise development networks.
+ **Networking & Security:** Design and manage robust industrial networking architectures (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP, fibre optics, wireless) for mission-critical applications, while ensuring compliance with defence-level security standards.
+ **Platform Management Systems:** Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design and integrate ICS solutions into PMS, ensuring they meet rigorous naval requirements for performance, reliability, and security.
**Development Environment Provision & Maintenance:**
+ **IT Asset Management:** Oversee the inventory, tracking, and lifecycle management of all IT assets within the development environment, including both hardware and software, ensuring up-to-date documentation and optimal resource utilisation.
+ **Windows Server & Red Hat Linux Management:** Maintain, secure, and configure Windows Server domains and Red Hat Linux environments to support the development and testing of ICS solutions. You will ensure these systems are optimised for reliability, security, and compliance with defence standards.
+ **Virtualisation Infrastructure:** Design, implement, and maintain virtualised environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to facilitate scalable and secure development processes. This includes configuring virtual machines, monitoring system health, and automating deployment workflows for seamless operations.
+ **Vulnerability Assessments:** Support vulnerability assessments of the development environment, including all networked systems, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and virtualisation platforms. Work with cybersecurity teams to identify and remediate security risks, ensuring the environment is protected against potential cyber threats.
+ **Cybersecurity & Compliance:** Implement and enforce cybersecurity best practices for both IT and OT systems in the development environment. Ensure compliance with defence cybersecurity standards, including securing Windows Server domains, Linux systems, and all network infrastructure from internal and external threats.
+ **Automated Monitoring & Reporting:** Develop automated solutions for continuous monitoring of IT assets, network traffic, and system vulnerabilities. Generate regular reports on system performance, security posture, and compliance status.
**Cybersecurity & Compliance:**
+ **Cyber Protection Techniques:** Implement advanced cyber protection measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and secure authentication protocols, to safeguard both the development environment and the final ICS product.
+ **Vulnerability Management:** Support regularly vulnerability scans, security audits, and patch management for both IT and OT systems. Collaborate with cybersecurity and product teams to address vulnerabilities, apply security patches, and harden systems against emerging threats.
+ **Regulatory Compliance:** Ensure all systems and processes within the development environment adhere to defense regulations and cybersecurity standards, such as ISO 27001, IEC 62443, and other applicable regulatory frameworks. Implement compliance measures for secure IT and OT systems in line with industry best practices.
**Required Skills & Experience:**
+ **IT/OT Convergence:** Strong background in IT/OT integration, experience working with ICS systems, including SCADA and PLCs in industrial environments.
+ **IT Asset Management:** Proven experience in managing IT assets, including tracking hardware and software inventory, ensuring systems are updated and maintained, and handling asset lifecycle management.
+ **Windows Server & Red Hat Linux:** Extensive hands-on experience in configuring, securing, and maintaining Windows Server domains andRed Hat Linux environmentsin complex, high-security settings.
+ **Virtualisation:** Expertise in virtualisation technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V, with a demonstrated ability to set up, maintain, and optimise virtual environments for industrial applications.

Rate: 500 - 600 a day

Location: Bristol hybrid one day every other week

Duration : 6 months initially

Clearance: SC Clearance required

You will join a global IT consultancy delivering digital transformation to a public sector body.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for actively supporting and guiding the team of seven through complex technical challenges.

The role involves breaking down complex tasks into manageable components, delegating effectively, and empowering team members to take ownership of their work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear technical direction and mentorship to the team.
  • Applying sound judgment to make technical decisions.
  • Driving improvements in system documentation, team processes, and overall developer experience.
  • Delivering direct, constructive feedback to foster individual and team growth.
  • Promoting a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team culture.

Tech stack:

  • Node.js, ReactJS, JavaScript, TypeScript, npm, AWS, Jenkins, Terraform, and PostgreSQL.

I am looking for an Engineering Manager for a market leading client in Maidenhead. They work the hybrid model, 3 days onsite, 2 days remote. Looking for candidates with strong experience in leading SW Development teams.

As an engineering leader, you will lead Agile engineering resources & provide guidance from inception through release of major & point product releases, including ongoing maintenance.  You will be working closely with your product managers, product owners, engineering leaders, your team and other stakeholders. You will be leading developers, quality engineers and partnering with CloudOps, TechOps, UX Design other cross-functional functional groups to evolve our solutions while continuing to improve your teams’ adoption of SDLC processes, CI/CD integration, code quality & automation test coverage.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead an organization of 4-10 development & test engineers globally to efficiently produce high quality deliverables
  • li>Manage team leads, direct reports or a mix of both
  • Manage several deliverables for a product line on time, on scope and on quality
  • Instrument your processes, produce scorecards of progress regularly and establish a regular cadence of operational reviews with your management including quality metrics, coding efficiencies, improvements, challenges, remediation needs
  • Correlate, report, and drive the adoption of Process/Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Recruit & provide leadership, coaching & career planning for engineering talent
  • Be accountable for design decisions for new and existing application development, proactively escalating issues and seeking assistance to overcome obstacles
  • Partner with Product Management to consult on solution feasibility and high-level effort estimation
  • Make recommendation for technology adoption and framework improvement, analyzing trends, patterns and best practices for software
  • Serve as the evangelist and custodian of technology, architecture, and product development practices
  • Participate in the design & implementation of production cloud grade services supporting high availability

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience leading software engineers for product development
  • Experience managing capitalized software processes
  • Preferred: experience with managing teams' operational health by analyzing product teams' work distribution CapEx, Opex, Maintenance, Billable and OH
  • Preferred: experience managing the organizational structure of teams as well as headcount & non-headcount budgets
  • 10+ years of combined experience in software engineering, enterprise architecture and/or DevOps
  • Working experience with scaled software architecture & domain: performance, redundancy, failover, clustering, vertical scaling
  • Preferred: experience using AWS cloud solutions, ideally including migration from other hosting services
  • Working experience with source code management patterns and DevOps automation
  • Proficient in API design, development & production operation
  • Working experience managing production client & server code bases across one or more technology stacks
  • Working experience with production Microsoft SQL Server schema design, queries & administration
  • Preferred: working experience with orchestration, automation, and configuration management processes & related DevOps tools & cloud platforms
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a desire to help others and take action
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms
  • Ability to independently work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to socialize ideas and influence decisions without direct authority

  • Oversee sprint planning, resource allocation, and workload management among engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with business analysts, project managers, infrastructure teams, and other key stakeholders to define requirements and align on project objectives.
