Risk Manager needed with in-depth experience in risk management, assurance and governance within complex project environments. Start ASAP in Autumn 2025.

Key experience + tasks to include:
- Key Objective: supporting Risk Management and Assurance best practice, and driving a culture of continuous improvement across complex programmes. li>Proven experience in Risk Management, assurance and governance in complex project environments, including risk assurance reviews, audits, reporting, and best practice.
- Key Tasks: identifying, assessing and mitigating project/programme risks, and providing assurance to ensure compliance with governance frameworks and best practice standards.
- Identifying, assessing, documenting + reporting risks, conducting risk workshops, implementing risk mitigation strategies, risk audits + implementing risk controls.
- Tracking and monitoring risks using RAID + producing risk management reports for the Governance Board to help reduce project uncertainties.
- Risk Assurance & Governance: risk assurance reviews to ensure adherence to best practice + governance frameworks, project assurance meetings, stage gate reviews + improving risk assurance standards, tools and methods.
- Change Management: supporting change management processes, implementing scope change protocols, ensuring robust Configuration Management + standardizing project documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: engaging with Programme Board on risk management issues, and providing guidance on risk management tools, best practice, assurance + governance.
- Risk Management qualification preferred -eg- MoR, APM, MSP, Prince2.
- Government / Public Sector sector experience preferred but not essential.

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Risk Manager to be engaged on a 6 month contract basis within the Rail Industry. Candidates will ideally be based in the Manchester or York areas and hybrid working will be supported.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership and guidance in the concept of R&VM, maintaining their appropriate and effective application to all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Deliver Level 1 Assurance activities as specified by the Principal R&V Manager.
- Manage &/or deliver specialist R&VM support services as dictated by the R&VM maturity of the project community.
- Actively promote R&VM culture and improve R&VM competency across the project and programme management community.
- Monitor the output of others who undertake such R&VM activities to monitor competence, consistency and compliance with the client procedures and provide assurance.
- Manage the buying in of external R&VM support where necessary and that these are delivered to required quality standards.
- Maintain a robust view of required levels of R&VM services and assure that suitably qualified & experienced resource is available to meet these requirements.
- Drive the implementation of ER&VM framework across their area.
Qualifications
- Suitable Rail and Risk Management background.
- Expert in all aspects of project and business risk management facilitation
- Able to build risk models in a number of applications, which accurately represent the complexities of cost, schedule and business risk
- Able to coach and challenge management and non specialists, the results of risk management
- Knowledge of risk management techniques
- Knowledge of project management and project control processes
