Our client, a large government customer, are seeking a Planning and Scheduling Lead to join their team. The role is based between Bristol and Corsham with some working from home and site visits to London. The role requires SC clearance and candidates must be sole UK nationals.
Requirements are scheduled to run until 30/06/2024 and offer a rate between £500/day and £25/day. Rate will depend on your experience, as the role is suited to either a Professional Level 2 (up to 30/day) or Professional Level 1 (up to 25/day) engineer.
IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. Our client has indicated that they intend to operate the engagement as Inside IR35. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement. The rates above represent rate payable to the umbrella co.

Overview of Role
There is a requirement to recruit a Planning and Scheduling Lead for the Cyber Resilience Programme. Reporting into the Programme Management Office, we are searching for an individual who can create and support the ongoing maintenance and delivery of schedules. The Planning & Scheduling Lead will support the Project Managers and Senior colleagues within the Programme to review the quality of plans being developed, ensure delivery plans are aligned to current standards and provide coaching and support creating schedules.
This role is for a highly motivated experienced planner who has excellent stakeholder management skills and is able to present and explain their plans to senior members.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the production of project schedules within Project Online (POL) for a number of projects which vary in size and complexity.
- Provide guidance and support to the Project Managers in assigning the appropriate levels of milestones to support 3* to project level reporting and monitoring progress.
- Review and quality check project milestones and schedules and that they reflect the right level of details in wording and language.
- Provide support and guidance to Project Managers on how to align their plans to the wider programme and to standards.
- Engage and present the project schedules to senior members as needed.
- Support all levels of reporting, including Theme Boards and various Programme Boards.
- Support the Business Change Managers and Project Managers in undertaking impact assessments to support the change process.
- Working with Risk Lead, carry out Schedule Risk Analyses to support business cases.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Extensive Planning & Scheduling experience.
- High level of competence in Project Online.
- High level of competence in MS Project.
- Competent user of MS Office and associated tools, including Power BI.
- Creative and flexible approach to presenting and reporting schedule information.
- Strong stakeholder and communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience of working within Cyber.

What will I be doing?

What will you be doing?
This role is for an innovative professional at Assistant Manager level, who can work alongside our existing team to use their lived experience of planning, scheduling and project controls in construction to solve complex problems. There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we’re as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they’re our most important asset, and people pick us because we really mean that.
Assistant Managers in our team are client-facing and right at the forefront of delivery. This role requires previous experience ideally gained from infrastructure-related projects and programmes, but we’ll happily consider candidates with experience in other relevant fields.
As part of a team of consultants on the ground, you’ll be applying your subject matter expertise and experience every day, bringing to life tailored solutions for our clients whilst managing important relationships.
The MPA team in the UK are based in London, Birmingham and Manchester. This role will be based in one of these locations but will require travel to client locations throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.
What will you need to do it?
For this opportunity, we’re looking for candidates with some post-qualification experience primarily built around the planning, scheduling and project controls area of major projects and programmes. This could be as a contractor, consultant, or within a government role.
Your track record should evidence:
- Proficiency in using Excel, MS Project and Oracle P6
- A good, applied understanding of planning including managing tasks in relation to the development, update, monitoring and reporting of schedules; risk management; change control; identification of opportunities for improvement and implementation of best practice
- Experience in major projects and programmes, ideally in infrastructure of one of our priority sectors of transport, defence, power and utilities or nuclear
- Investigating schedule and cost performance, defining variance, causes and providing mitigating options
- Developing tools and reports to support project controls processes
- Risk identification and analysis
- Project and programme performance monitoring and assurance
- Strong problem-solving skills
- An ability to build and maintain great relationships and a desire to network across our firm
- Communication and presentation skills
- A desire to learn and develop new skills within planning and project controls

- Dispute advisory or expert witness experience
- Supporting the delivery of advisory services such as organisational design and governance optimisation

- Achieved or working towards a relevant professional certification – e.g. APM PMQ/PPQ; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2
