Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Cabinet Maker located in Manchester. The Cabinet Maker will be responsible for building custom made cabinets for client orders and ensuring high standards of carpentry and woodworking are maintained. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting design plans, measuring and cutting materials, assembling and finishing cabinets, and collaborating with other team members to ensure the successful completion of projects. The role requires attention to detail and a commitment to craftsmanship.

They are now looking for a CAD Designer with joinery experience. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Bench Joiner who is already working in a CAD role or who is looking to move into CAD. If required, full training will be provided. They are not able to sponsor workers from overseas so you must have the right to work in the UK and be based within commuting distance of Swindon.

Role and responsibilities

  • Your role will be to produce detailed joinery manufacturing drawings from design specifications/draft drawings provided by the client or the client’s designer/architect using AutoCAD software.

  • You will need to liaise regularly with the client or their designer/architect to ensure you are matching their brief and to get their approval for your drawings.

  • You will also undertake site surveys where required to ensure products are designed to the correct size and specification.

  • You will research and order component parts such as ironmongery, glass and metalwork using our supply chain.

  • Finally, you will keep close to the products as they are manufactured in our workshop to ensure that they are in line with what you have designed and agreed with the client.

This is an interesting and varied role where every day is different as they manufacture a wide range of joinery, including external doors and windows, bespoke wardrobes and cabinets and shopfitting fixtures. The company works with well-known contractors such as Skanska, ISG and Beards as well as luxury brands, including Chanel, Harrods and Selfridges.

Experience as a bench joiner is essential so you know how the items you are designing will be made. Ideally you will have CAD experience and be familiar with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Inventor but full training can be provided if you have an interest in drawing and a strong joinery background.

This role is based full time in the office although they are able to offer flexible working hours.  In return, the company is offering a competitive salary negotiable depending on experience

Our client specialises in joinery within commercial sectors, mainly supplying office fit outs and improvements. This encapsulates products such as reception area, desks, display features, screens, seating areas, etc. They currently employ around 70 staff and have a turnover of £16m. They supply the top end of the market providing luxurious, modern office fittings that are stylish and ergonomically friendly.



THE ROLE


  • To be responsible for all day-to-day activities at the workshop reporting directly to the Production Director
  • Manage & direct the workshop team, managing & maintaining the key objectives, in line with target hours etc
  • Programming and sequencing of all joinery items through the workshop and reporting progress
  • Implementation of any manufacturing improvement methodologies and techniques
  • Working to ensure production meets demand requirements
  • Overseeing quality systems to ensure specifications & product expectations are met in a cost-effective manner
  • Ensure all operations in workshop are in accordance with all HSE
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement & drive through improvements
  • Keep an environment of employee engagement, keeping a motivated work culture etc



THE PERSON


  • Joinery skills and experience of bespoke joinery using materials such as MDF, Laminates, Hardwoods, Solid surfaces, etc
  • Experience of managing a joinery workshop
  • Experienced delivering bespoke joinery solutions
  • Experienced delivering continuous improvement initiatives
  • A proactive & results focused approach delivered through effective KPIs
  • Excellent communicator and be able to read workshop drawings for Rec desks, Teapoints, seating etc etc
