Job Description
Trace Solutions is a pioneering, employee-owned software company that builds enterprise-grade property management and accounting systems. For over 50 years, our software has served as the technological backbone for major UK managing agents and housing associations. We are a mid-sized organisation of around 60 people, based in Clerkenwell in central London, with a strong focus on providing exemplary service and cultivating absurdly happy customers.
The Web Development team of approximately 20 people is tasked with developing Mojo, a cutting-edge, cloud-based platform destined to completely replace our highly successful legacy system, Tramps. One of our most exciting projects involves partnering with Brunel University, a world-leading centre for AI research, to build and use advanced AI models to intelligently parse Tramps, map out its extensive historical functionality, and identify how those features should be re-architected into Mojo.
Some of our team’s core values are :-
- Psychological Safety: We foster a respectful, no-blame working environment where everyone has a right to be heard and mistakes are treated as learning opportunities.
- Collaborative Mindset: We work together, actively asking for support when we need it and freely offering it when we can.
- Pragmatic Excellence: We take pride in our code quality but remain practical and solution-oriented when balancing business-critical deadlines.
Our engineering teams are organised into small, Agile teams of 5 to 6 people using Scrum to deliver focussed product increments. Our time is split across three core areas:
- Core Product Development: Building the next generation of our Mojo platform.
- Client Requests: Delivering tailored, high-value features directly for our users.
- 3rd-Line Support: Diving deep into complex, rewarding technical troubleshooting to assist our internal support teams
We operate a hybrid working model with a minimum of 2 days per week in our London office. We choose to work this way because we value face-to-face collaboration, team brainstorming, and peer-to-peer mentoring.
Some of the key tools and technologies we use are:
- Back-end logic written in .NET 10, and ASP.NET Core MVC
- UI in Angular and Vue JS, with some legacy Knockout JS
- Database is MS SQL Server
- We have SSO for our app suite via OAuth/OIDC
- We make frequent use of ORMs, including both NHibernate and EF Core
- Our most ambitious development uses DDD and CQRS patterns
The Junior Developer is expected to have a practical understanding of software development fundamentals and an essential knowledge of one or more relevant programming languages. You are not expected to have experience with the full software development lifecycle yet, but familiarity with some of our common technologies is helpful. Above all, you should be keen to acquire deeper knowledge, enhance your skills, and gain a greater understanding of the commercial business of developing software.
Technical skillsWe'd expect some familiarity with:
- Core software development fundamentals and concepts, the ability to both write and read code, and the use of standard tools to build and debug software.
- Basic web technologies like HTML and CSS.
- Version control fundamentals using Git.
- Exposure to a modern backend language (such as C#) or a modern frontend framework (such as Angular or Vue).
- An interest and some experience in using AI tools (like Copilot, ChatGPT, or LLMs) to assist with learning codebases, debugging, and accelerating your daily workflows.
- Database frameworks and ORMs like Entity Framework or NHibernate.
- Advanced architectural concepts, including design patterns.
- Modern build tools and asset bundlers such as Webpack.
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Continuous Improvement: The ability to learn from your own mistakes and become increasingly self-sufficient.
- Proactive Growth: Takes active steps to continuously improve your own technical and professional skills.
- Resourceful Collaboration: Attempts to resolve problems independently but knows when to ask for help promptly when stuck.
- Agile Mindset: True enthusiasm for working within an iterative, fast-paced Agile/Scrum environment.
- Clear Communicator: Can confidently explain your technical decisions, thoughts, and ideas to teammates, regarding both technical and non-technical matters.
- Team Delivery: Work with the Scrum team to ensure sprint goals are met and meet delivery expectations.
- Active Collaboration: Collaborate closely with team members, proactively asking for assistance when needed.
- Estimation & Transperancy: Give reasonable estimates for ongoing tasks and communicate early about blocks to progress.
- Quality Code: Endeavour to produce good code, following advice from peers on both coding and testing.
- Continuous Learning: Use peer reviews of both code and analysis tasks to educate yourself and improve.
- Sprint Engagement: Active contributor to team meetings, asking questions and offering opinions.
- Incident Communication: If working on a critical issue or 3rd-line support ticket, ensure communication is regular, prompt, and transparent.
At Trace Solutions, we believe that great work happens when people feel supported, valued, and genuinely engaged. In joining us, you'll become part of a collaborative, employee-owned business where your contribution matters and your development is taken seriously.
We offer a culture built on transparency, innovation, and mutual respect — with real opportunities to grow your skills, take on meaningful work, and make a lasting impact in the PropTech space.
In addition, we offer:
- Enhanced pension scheme
- 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
- Life assurance
- Group Income Protection
- Hybrid working arrangements (2 days a week in our Clerkenwell office)
Trace Solutions is an equal opportunities employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
