Skills and experience:
- A-levels or equivalent in a science subject (ideally chemistry or biology).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a QC laboratory environment. < i>Familiarity with laboratory assays and analytical methods.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work on time.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Supporting our client, this role is multi-disciplinary and underpins the laboratory support operations and warehouse operations. This role is directly and indirectly supporting scientists allowing scientists to concentrate on their core role.
Skills and Experience:
- Stock management - daily consumable replenishment at the point of use, utilising site inventory system
- Maintenance of lab consumable inventory, identifying alternative products to roll out in the event of supply issues - preventing disruption to science
- Waste management (biological, chemical & radioactive)
- Handling of cell and sample deliveries
- Routine decontaminations of incubators, water baths, cell counter, class II cabinets, water purification units and other equipment relevant to site.
- Calibration of pH meters and counterbalances
- Defrosting of fridges & freezers
- Management of pipette inventory and organisation of calibration schedules
- Aseptic aliquoting of reagents used in tissue culture & basic media prep
- Laboratory housekeeping - tidying stock rooms, cleaning sinks etc
- Maintenance of PPE stocks
- Receipt and unpacking of parcel deliveries, including temperature sensitive
- Communicate with the lab management teams regularly to understand what support they need in the lab and stores operations
- Provide regular glassware and plastics collection, washing and, autoclaving/ sterilisation services (steam, dry or filtration) for the scientists to use within the laboratories.
- To protect the integrity of research activities, regularly check chemical and reagent expiry dates and arrange disposal of any out-of-date material via the correct waste disposal route.
- Proactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements
- Assists Laboratory Manager to maintain a safe laboratory environment
- To carry out all scientific support activities in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, GLS & GXP.
- Adheres to SHE regulations, PPE policies and follows Avantor work instructions.

This is a hands-on, site-based role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
As the Laboratory Technician your duties will be;
- Carry out QC testing in a busy lab to support production activities such as GC, UV-Vis, auto titration, LOD etc.
- Ensure that all identified equipment is within calibration before use.
- Calibrate equipment as required, report any out of calibration issues to the Laboratory Manager.
- Ensure relevant Product Manufacturing Specifications are referred to prior to analysis, strictly follow the analysis frequency and method indicated on the PMS's.
- Carry out all testing in accordance with the required Test Method, reporting any out of specification results to the Laboratory Manager.
- Complete results worksheets and CoA system as required ensuring full traceability.
- Report any unusual findings to the Laboratory Manager.
- Participate and maintain standards in the lab.
- Use initiative in ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory in terms of reagent preparation, glassware cleaning, helping others etc.
- Follow and maintain our very high standard HSE and policy requirements on site.
The successful Laboratory Technician will hold the following;
- Minimum A Level/BTEC in science subject
- Previous experience preferred.
- Experience in Quality Control or Quality environment with ISO knowledge and Lean principles such as 5S would be ideal.
- Computer literate with MS Office skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Good numeracy skills
- Excellent eye for detail.
