Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Grounds Maintenance Operative on behalf of Luton Borough Council within their Place & Infrastructure department.
Main purpose of position:
To undertake a range of horticultural/grounds maintenance and sports turf maintenance tasks throughout the Borough of Luton.
As a Grounds maintenance Operative , you will be responsible to
- Undertake grass cutting and other grounds and gardens maintenance duties to specified standards using a wide range of ride on and pedestrian controlled plant and machinery, hand held equipment and hand tools. Paying particular attention to the security of parks/work locations by ensuring that all areas are left secure & with barriers locked.
- Assist higher graded employees to mark out sports pitches, undertake fine turf maintenance, and gardening duties such as shrub pruning and planting to recognised horticultural standards.
- Undertake duties, such as hoeing, weeding, digging, leaf raking, grass cutting, ground working and hedge cutting to the required standards.
- Undertake litter picking by hand in parks and amenity areas throughout the Borough to specified standards. Sweep hard surface areas by hand, as and when required, to remove glass and other extraneous material.
Skills and Experience
- Some experience of using grass cutting machinery
- Some gardening experience
- Able to work well as part of a team
- Able to use own initiative when undertaking tasks
- Able to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Current valid category B driving licence, to operating ride on machinery and to transport staff and equipment to various sites

Meadfleet are a land-owning quality Open Space Management Company with a growing diverse portfolio of over 320 housing developments throughout England and Wales.
We’re looking for a Contract Manager to oversee the management and sub-contracted maintenance of public open spaces across the midland - between Aylesbury, Banbury, Northampton, Burton upon Trent, Leicester and Kettering.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Hold a degree in one of the following fields: Horticulture, Ecology, or Conservation; or experience in a similar role; or 3 years’ working at the operative/supervisory level of grounds maintenance.
- Ability to prioritise, problem solve and manage both short-term and long-term aspirations for a given development.
- Have a desire to manage the delivery of consistent high-quality grounds maintenance.
- Be an effective communicator.
- Have excellent organisational skills.
- Have a good understanding and use of IT.
- A full, clean driving licence.
- Ecological and Horticultural credentials or a keen interest would be desirable.

The Role
The Contract Manager will oversee the management and sub-contracted maintenance of public open spaces on allocated developments throughout between Aylesbury, Banbury, Burton upon Trent, Leicester and Kettering.
This is an ideal step up from an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative/Supervisor looking to take a managerial position off the tools, or an experienced Contract Manager with a keen eye on horticulture.
Key Tasks:
- Liaising with sub-contractors daily and ensuring conformity with their contract.
- Conducting regular development inspections and reporting on our bespoke inspection app (tablet based) ensuring quality and Health and Safety requirements are met.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with your sub-contractors including educating and enhancing their skills.
- Producing monthly reports to the Operations Manager for your region.
- Inspecting playground equipment (training provided) and arranging necessary repairs.
- Liaising with residents and responding to their queries delivering excellent customer service.
- Following Meadfleet best practice guidelines.
- Be self-motivated and identify opportunities for amenity and biodiversity improvements.
This position requires a satisfactory basic DBS check and driving licence check.

We are recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Contracts Manager with experience of providing a grounds maintenance service to a wide range of clients including the local authority, commercial, new build developer and industrial sectors.
On offer is a salary of up to £45,000 per year plus company car or car allowance and the standard four weeks holiday, pension scheme, laptop and mobile phone.
As the Grounds Maintenance Contracts Manager, you will be:
Responsible for ensuring all maintenance projects are completed on time, to budget, match contractual specifications, meet with both their financial and quality requirements, and are completed to the Clients satisfaction and in line with priced expectations.Offering best in sector customer service, ensuring all projects are delivered professionally and any remedial works are undertaken quickly and to clients satisfaction.Ensuring the financial integrity and resource scheduling of all projects by effective resource scheduling and appropriate procurement of goods and services for projects.Responsible for the operational team including inductions, appraisals, motivating and building a strong team with excellent attention to detail skills.Supporting the senior management and sales teams during pre-tender meetings and throughout the tender process which could include client facing meetings.Looking at areas within projects that give scope for margin enhancement.
