Lead Data Scientist

Our client is a fast-growing financial services organisation seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join their data and analytics team. This is a hands-on role focused on developing predictive models, deploying autonomous decisioning frameworks, and driving innovation across the customer lifecycle.

The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions in fraud prevention, marketing, credit risk, and customer management. Role and Responsibilities:

* Develop and deploy predictive models to improve customer outcomes across multiple business areas.

* Lead model implementation and policy setting to support autonomous decision-making.

* Deliver actionable insights through structured analysis and clear communication.

* Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation using data.

Key Skills and Experience:

* 5+ years of experience delivering end-to-end data science solutions in a commercial setting.

* Strong technical expertise in machine learning, predictive modelling, and AI.

* Proficient in Python, R, SQL, and familiar with Power BI or similar visualisation tools.

* Experience applying Gen AI tools or techniques is highly desirable.

* Solid understanding of stakeholder engagement and business communication.

* Educated to degree level (2:1 or above) in a numerical discipline.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team (5 people).

Your new role
As Lead Data Scientist, you'll take ownership of a small but growing data team, currently consisting of two Analysts and one Data Scientist. Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll be responsible for shaping the data science strategy, implementing scalable processes, and delivering impactful insights across the business. You'll work hands-on with machine learning, AI, and LLMs to solve complex problems, while also mentoring your team and engaging with senior stakeholders to align data initiatives with business goals.
What you'll need to succeed

• Proven experience in a senior or lead data science role
• Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL
• Solid experience with Machine Learning, AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Previous people management experience (ideally managing Analysts/Data Scientists)
• Ability to implement and improve data science processes and workflows
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Experience working in a fast-paced, agile tech environment
• Must be UK-based and eligible to work without sponsorship
