The Job Role Details:

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Farm Worker to join this agricultural team.

You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the daily operations of the farm.

This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn about farming practices.

As Farm Worker you will engage in activities such as tractor driving and farm machinery operating, animal care, relief milking and farm equipment maintenance.

As well as seasonal field work such as carting corn and straw bales, drilling and general field maintenance including fencing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive tractors, carry out drilling and maintain the farm machinery.
  • Conduct basic repairs on machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Engage in heavy lifting as required for various farm duties.

Key Responsibilities

The children and young people that attend our school range between the ages of 7 and 19 years.

The Job

The Animal Care Assistant is responsible for helping to provide an efficient and accessible animal Therapy service to support the smooth running and effective management of the establishment. The role is all about supporting and empowering all of our young people to achieve their personal best through working alongside our horses, within the animal environment. Providing appropriate physical and emotional support to ensure effective learning takes place, whilst maintaining a clean and safe environment are key competencies we are looking for. To support our young people both in school and in their homes as required to ensure a consistent approach.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To contribute to making the animal care team effective. This involves supporting other members of the team and helping to build positive relationships. You must be willing to give and receive constructive feedback aimed at developing the quality of relationships and team performance.
  • To work within the health and safety guidelines of the school.
  • To support the Equine lead and Groom in order to maintain the health and wellbeing of the animals. This includes taking responsibility for the running of the yard when the equine lead is absent. As well as delivering student sessions.
  • Liaise with the Equine Lead and Groom to ensure continuity of care for the animals during times of staff holiday or illness.
  • General duties i.e. mucking out, feeding, grooming and animal first aid. To include caring for our small animals – guinea pigs and rabbits.
  • Care and monitoring of tack and equipment including ensuring it is safe and fit to use as well as keeping it clean and tidy.
  • General care of the animals with specific emphasis on helping our young people groom and complete stable management activities during the year.
  • Support in the delivery of sessions by taking responsibility for working with groups or individuals in a range of situations with the guidance of the Equine lead.
  • Assist with the preparation of resources for sessions. Help to plan individual programs for our young people, this includes group sessions, 1:1 sessions and staff sessions.
  • Maintain students records as required, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained. Always ensuring that records are written to a legible, accurate, high standard at the end of the session.

The college provides a 2-3 year pathway to prepare our students for adulthood, equipping them with the skills and qualities required to lead a fulfilled, independent and ambitious life.

Purpose and Summary of the Job

To support the delivery of the Landbased and Animal Care curriculums, by providing and leading enrichment sessions, in session support to engage and progress learning for students as a support for the Tutor/Teachers and 1-1 support to students throughout their educational day.

To provide additional support in the specified curriculum area, supporting the Tutors/Teachers with resources, session delivery and planning.

To provide practical support for the department, including assisting with animal care tasks such as feeding, preparing animal housing, performing health checks, and managing the physical environment and resources. This will involve weekend work, as part of a rota to cover animal care tasks during the weekend. This role is contracted permanently for 52 weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist the Animal Care Technician with animal care tasks, and to support the ongoing maintenance of the animal care environment.
  • To assistant with resources and maintenance of land-based areas as instructed.
  • Show flexibility and differentiation when working across all ability levels, supporting all students to engage in learning opportunities.
  • Ensure all students are working towards their agreed accreditations.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with parent/carers to promote students’ learning and to provide information to parents about achievements and progress.
  • Help produce quality displays around the college and ensure that they are updated regularly.
  • Support students in a range of activities both on and off site.
  • Provide support and care for the students throughout the educational day, as required and in line with support plans.
  • Assisting with therapy programmes.
  • Supervise and provide support for all students ensuring their safety and access to learning activities

The successful candidate would be required to work alternative weekends throughout the year as agreed with the Animal Care Technician and Tutor as part of your weekly working hours, with a reduced weekday timetable to provide necessary care to the animals, this would include tasks such as feeding, cleaning and medical support.

Requirements

No previous experience is necessary but a passion and commitment to gain the required skills, knowledge and experience is vital.

A qualification in Safeguarding and/or relevant qualifications e.g. Animal Husbandry are desirable as well as experience of working within a similar setting.
