Role Summary
To manage and optimize all internal logistics processes related to the storage and despatch of finished products to Shotton Mill customers. This includes overseeing warehousing operations, inventory accuracy, mobile plant, material flow and loading of outbound vehicles to support best in class customer service in a cost-efficient, safe, and compliant manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety First – Responsible for Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management within internal logistics operations, ensuring minimal risk to all stakeholders. Leads by example by strictly following site safety rules and promotes a strong safety culture where near-miss reporting and continuous improvement are actively encouraged and supported through effective corrective actions.
- Finished Goods Warehousing - Oversees the day-to-day operations of the automated warehouse system, ensuring safe access controls, optimal facility utilisation, and high standards of presentation, housekeeping, and damage prevention. Maintains accurate inventory through effective use of warehouse management systems, supporting this with regular cycle counts and audits. Responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the WMS, working closely with IT to drive system improvements. Collaborates with Engineering to align with maintenance schedules for cranes and conveyor systems, maximising equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- Outbound Loading Area - Ensure a safe working environment by implementing procedures that segregate pedestrians and collecting drivers from mobile plant activity. Plans capacity, resources, and equipment to meet required despatch volumes, ensuring vehicles are loaded safely and efficiently. Oversees the timely and accurate despatch of finished products, maintaining high levels of accuracy and operational control to service our customers with best in class On Time in Full (OTIF) deliveries. Implements processes to verify that drivers have properly secured loads before leaving the site, supporting both safety and compliance standards.
- Mobile Plant Responsibility - Responsible for the safe operation and management of mobile plant within the designated area. Ensures all operators are trained, certified, and competent, with daily pre-shift checks completed to maintain safety standards. Oversees the reporting of defects and coordinates with maintenance providers to resolve faults, keeping accurate maintenance records. Works with the team to monitor and address equipment damage, ensuring high standards are maintained throughout the equipment’s operational lifecycle.
- Leadership - Leads by example to foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong employee engagement within the Internal Logistics team. Ensures the company values of Efficiency, Pride, Understanding, and Ambition are understood and embraced. Provides effective leadership through performance management practices, including appraisals, training, and development. Maintains daily team briefings to promote clear communication, alignment, and engagement.
- Key Performance Indicators – Responsible for the logistics KPIs within your area of responsibility which are essential for optimizing, measuring and tracking performance in critical areas such as operational, efficiency, reducing costs and taking proactive steps.
