Our client is looking for an Estimator within their Sales & Estimating Department, you will analyse blueprints & specifications to develop installation proposals in line with requirements. This role is specific to mechanical projects and will involve estimating and selling fixed firefighting systems for a range of markets within the UK & Europe.
Key Responsibilities - Estimator - Mechanical Systems
- Review tender documents including project specific consultant specifications & drawings
- Liaising with clients & attending meetings to discuss projects
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients
- Where required, survey and obtain key information to inform estimates
- Contacting suppliers to obtain project specific costs
- Utilise computer aided design software to develop blueprints and preliminary design to inform the estimate

- Proven IT skills with experience of MS office packages
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK & overseas

System engineering is an interdisciplinary role that focuses on the design, integration and management of complex systems. The role of the Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer encompasses the complete product design and development life cycle including system concept development, system architecture, design, build, verification / qualification, certification support and in-service support. This includes supporting system and equipment qualification test activities.
The Mechanical Systems Engineer will be expected to work both independently and within a cross-functional team environment. The successful candidate will be expected to be a customer technical point of contact and may be required to lead global Honeywell resources and external suppliers to define and align product designs with customer requirements.
The Mechanical Systems Engineer is expected to manage their time according to the demands of the programme and the department. A degree of working outside of normal hours may occur given the global aspects of the customer locations and the Honeywell Corporation. Occasional travel to customer locations or internally within Honeywell sites may be required.
+ The complete product (Life Support System) life cycle, including leading and co-ordinating:
+ System architecture definition, development and detailed design, which will involve interfacing to system performance analysis, system safety, system testing, electronic controls and the chief engineering organization.
+ Requirements management, involving:
+ The review and flow down of customer requirements to system and equipment specifications; including pneumatic equipment, electro-mechanical equipment and electronic controllers.
+ The identification of requirement means of compliance and the co-ordination of verification / qualification activities to ensure compliance to the customer requirements.
+ Global Honeywell resources and external suppliers to define and align product designs with customer requirements.
+ Monitoring and reporting of system and equipment design / development status to internal and external customers.

YOU MUST HAVE
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Systems Engineering. However, other relevant degrees or equivalent qualifications would be considered along with experience.
+ Experience in mechanical systems engineering design and development.
+ Strong knowledge of pneumatic or mechanical system design principles and methodologies.
+ Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including ability to interpret test results
+ Experience in requirements management, validation and verification
+ Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

The Mechanical Systems Design Engineers work ranges from updates and modifications of existing products and solutions through to the mechanical design and development of complete, new systems to meet challenging technical constraints and demanding customer requirements.
The Mechanical Systems Design Engineers will report to the Engineering and Operations Director and positions are full-time office based at the company facility, although there will be scope for occasional remote working where project requirements permit. Key Duties for the Mechanical Systems Design Engineers
- Working as part of a team to design and develop the mechanical aspects of products and systems with particular emphasis on harsh environments and safety critical domains.
- Work through the whole engineering lifecycle (requirements, development, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports).
- Ownership of some mechanical aspects of projects whilst working with Project Managers.
- Assist with supporting technical documentation, validation, and verification activities.
- Provide technical mechanical design support to project managers and customers.
- Develop and maintain mechanical drawings, parts lists, and manufacturing data.
- Adhere to the design control activities within the company systems.
- Assist with Systems Integration information, including technical and training materials.
- Review legacy equipment in respect of current standards, obsolescence, and design.
- Assist the customer in developing their requirements to realise a solution.
- Oversee prototypes and manufacture and submitting required documentation.
- Demonstrating compliance and manage testing, as necessary.
Key Skills/Experience Required for the Mechanical Systems Design Engineers
- Experience in a similar role within safety critical engineering environment
- Degree qualified engineer with some experience with DFMA, FEA, CFD etc.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD, ideally Inventor and or AutoCAD, for detailing design and data-packs.
- Experience in analysis, e.g. using associated software tools for structural analysis.
- Strong problem-solving ability with clear and effective communication, both written and verbal.
- A background in the defence sector and knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding and coating technology would be an advantage.
- Excellent at communicating and able to present internally and to customers, as necessary.
- You should have an eye for detail, a good positive can-do attitude and be hands on.
- Effective time management and planning skills are essential skills.
- Flexible, adaptable, and prepared to get the job done.
