We have an exciting role for our prestigious client who is seeking a Maintenance technician. In this busy role you will liaise with the Grounds and Maintenance Team, Contractors on site and manage any ad hoc issues as they arise or escalate to the Facilities Manager as required.

This job includes working at heights, Lone Working and Manual Handling.

Your role as Maintenance Technician is to:

  • Ensuring that planned and unplanned works are completed according to priority and schedule.
  • Maintain and repair the fabric of the buildings, including redecoration, plumbing, carpentry and upkeep of the grounds and external services as required.
  • Install, move and modify office furniture as required.
  • Property inspections to ensure that staff accommodation is well maintained.
  • Arranging for gas, water and electrical checks.
  • Arrange contractors to get quotes and fix any maintenance issues.
  • Carry out planned maintenance schedules (weekly, monthly, quarterly etc.).
  • Liaise with the pest control contractor to ensure the conditions of the contract are met and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with the Front of House Team to carry out required painting, redecoration and general maintenance duties.
  • Carry out a maintenance, repair and installation work.
  • To dispose of surplus equipment and materials, including hazardous chemical and other waste, in accordance with H&S procedures.

The person:

  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Previous maintenance experience in Facilities Management.
  • Highly organised approach to work, including ability to prioritise own workload in a busy environment, successfully negotiate any conflict and delegate upwards when required.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible approach to duties and provision of facilities and services, including covering for all members of the team and exhibit a positive service orientation to all staff, members and visitors.
  • Highly organised, proactive person able to meet deadlines.
  • Proven line management skills in a similar role.
  • The ability to work as part of team or alone.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite of software (Excel, Word, Outlook and the Internet).
  • Demonstrable experience in using a full range of mechanical engineering and woodworking hand tools.
  • Trade experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety requirements for example COSHH.

The  Role

The technician team supports laboratory operations at OQC by maintaining the smooth, safe functioning of our lab environment. Technicians also facilitate our Quantum Engineer’s by handling various manual tasks, such as wiring, assembly and polishing of components, and thus enabling our Quantum Engineers to focus on developing our cutting edge technology. The lab is a varied environment and technologies encountered include: Electronics, Cryogenics, water systems and HVAC. 

Maintaining a safe working environment in the lab means ensuring that all technicians understand and are ready to promote and enforce Health and Safety best practice at all times.

As our quantum devices are running around the clock, there is occasionally a need for technicians to attend site out of hours should a fault occur which requires immediate action, because of this, some flexibility in availability is required.

Required Skills + Experience

  • Practical skills in general assembly, fitting and maintenance
  • Experience with the use of tools such as: Multimeters, Oscilloscope, spectrum analyser 
  • Commitment to the proper implementation of Health and Safety protocols
  • Understanding of the importance of implementing and following best practice in documentation of work and processes
  • Experience with basic electrical measurements
  • Eagerness to work within the technology sector
  • Qualifications in mechanical / electrical engineering would be beneficial or suitable professional experience.
  • Experience with any of the following is highly desirable: Cryogenics, PAT testing, Assembly and fitting of laboratory equipment, Working with high pressure systems
