Substance is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Network Firewall & Software Manual Testing Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the robustness and security of network systems by conducting comprehensive manual testing on firewalls and related software applications. You will work closely with development teams to validate security configurations and functionality, identifying vulnerabilities and performance issues before they affect the production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct manual testing of firewall and hotspot gateway software to ensure reliability and performance.
- Document all test cases, results, and observations using Excel or related software tools.
- Identify, log, and track bugs and defects , ensuring they are properly reported and addressed by developers.
- Perform various testing methodologies, including functional testing, regression testing, performance testing, and unit testing .
- Collaborate with developers and network engineers to troubleshoot and validate fixes.
- Take full ownership of assigned tasks , ensuring quality assurance objectives are met.
- Ensure compliance with network security standards and best practices .
- Continuously improve test cases and contribute to process enhancements.
Job Competencies:
- Software Testing & Manual Testing (including Functional, Regression, Unit, and Performance Testing )
- Computer Networking principles and security protocols
- Strong logical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks

The role:
As a Test Engineer in the Test Department, you will report to the Test Engineering Manager and be responsible for testing electro-optical-mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and systems. Your duties will include conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) using standard test equipment, fault-finding electromechanical equipment, and assisting in creating test procedures and documentation. You will communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintain accurate records according to ISO 9001 standards, and support continuous improvement efforts. Reporting to our head of QA this role will focus on the user acceptance testing of the devices themselves and their operation when used in the full end to end solution.
