We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Head of Manufacturing Technology to lead innovation and efficiency in our production facilities. This role offers a hybrid working model, combining remote work flexibility with on-site presence in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire . You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies that enhance productivity, improve quality, and reduce costs. Your expertise will be crucial in developing and executing the technology roadmap for our manufacturing operations. The Role

  • Provide constructive feedback to Engineering on issues found on the shop floor with possible solutions
  • Develop counter measures and solutions for issues and see them through into production


Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree or HND in Electrical or mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or other relevant discipline
  • Considerable demonstrable experience in electro/mechanical systems
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel etc)
  • Understanding of Product life cycle, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Stage-gate process

Desirable:

  • Practical understanding of BOM structures and ERP software
  • ISO 9001 and 14001 understanding
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks)

What you’ll be doing

As a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will:

  • Take ownership of designated processes, driving efficiency, quality, and throughput improvements.
  • Identify and eliminate waste while embedding continuous improvement (CI) practices.
  • Lead or support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring smooth integration into production.
  • Support Capability Acquisition (CA) by implementing new technologies and processes.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation such as flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and SOPs.
  • Champion standardization and compliance to quality and operational standards.
  • Initiate and manage shopfloor improvement projects with clear scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Monitor and analyse production KPIs to support data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Technical, and Quality teams to align improvements with wider business objectives.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing, Process, or Chemical Engineering (experience in leather or textiles manufacturing is a bonus).
  • Skilled in structured problem-solving (Root Cause Analysis, A3, 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC, or PDCA).
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.
  • Proficiency in process control and built-in-quality tools (PFMEAs, control plans, capability studies).

We have an exciting opening for a **Manufacturing/Process Engineer** to work in the engineering team out of our Redditch site. This is a great opportunity to broaden your technical skills in a very interesting area of engineering while becoming a key member of our engineering team. Redditch site onsite work schedule (Flexibility).
The Redditch site specializes in the design, development, and manufacture of components for small-scale cooling infra-red devices used in guided weapons and thermal imaging systems, high pressure actuation systems, and satellite cryogenic systems. Most of our programs are for space/military markets where reliability and sound manufacturing are key. The individual who fills this role will be responsible for slotting into our team and becoming a key production resource to resolve any and all production issues. I expect this individual to take engineering ownership of our product lines and be prepared to both resolve issues and improve line performance.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Become a first line technical resource in JT cooler function and manufacture-this means understanding the manufacturing processes involved but also learning and understanding how a JT cooler works on a technical level, in order to assess failure modes (I don't expect the candidate to come into this role with JT knowledge, we will provide training, but the candidate will need the willingness to learn and a fair degree of technical acumen).
+ Support our production organization in all facets of their work, becoming an often seen and first point of contact individual for our production operators regarding any line issues.
+ Be responsible for a number of areas, possibly including: production issues resolution, Root Cause Corrective Action reviews, Part and process concessions/waivers/deviations, equipment maintenance and support.
+ Support our quality organization in resolution of key hardware non-conformities.
+ Contribute to the larger engineering team with manufacturing advice, producibility, manufacturing feedback to early design concepts, etc.
**Experience Required:**
+ Possesses broad engineering skills and abilities, may have an area of special expertise. Clear understanding of engineering processes. Understands processes in multiple areas. Knowledge of assembly/test techniques for small mechanical assemblies advantageous. Machining experience advantageous.
+ Proven ability to interact with and build good relationships with all members of the organization, from senior management to line level management to production staff (skilled and semi-skilled) to engineering staff.
+ Proven ability to resolve production issues.
+ Experience with standard DFMEA/PFMEA essential.
+ Experience in all manner of welding (EB, TIG, Laser) advantageous but not essential.
+ Good oral and written communication skills.
+ Knowledge and success in implementing change and an understanding of Aerospace/defense configuration control advantageous.
+ BA/BSc/Beng and/or significant process engineering experience in an aerospace/defense environment.
+ Design for Six Sigma / Lean Manufacture experience advantageous.

The Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for analysing, developing, and implementing process enhancements across the manufacturing operation to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety. This role utilises lean manufacturing principles, data analytics, and cross-functional collaboration to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support strategic business objectives.
**Job Description**
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement.
+ Design, develop, and implement process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies.
+ Collect and analyse production data to measure process effectiveness and identify root causes of inefficiencies.
+ Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to drive change and ensure successful implementation of improvement projects.
+ Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for improved processes.
+ Lead Kaizen events, workshops, and training sessions to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
+ Monitor and report on project progress, savings, and performance metrics to management.
+ Support cost reduction initiatives and drive waste elimination efforts.
+ Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements in all process improvement activities.
+ Generate CAPEX proposal justification reports to support capital investment decisions.
+ Lead PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) assessments on factory equipment to ensure safety and compliance.
+ Lead Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe equipment isolation during maintenance and process changes.
+ Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in manufacturing process improvement.
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field) required.
+ Experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role.
+ Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
+ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Proficient in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab) and manufacturing software.
+ Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred.
