Experienced Manufacturing Engineer required for Precision Engineering company based in Plymouth. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and enhancing manufacturing processes. This position involves designing and testing new processes, optimising existing ones, and troubleshooting production issues. The Manufacturing Engineer ensures compliance with quality and safety standards to uphold our commitment to excellence.
Key Role Responsibilities will include:
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods and processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs. li>Design workflows, workstations, and tools to optimise production.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to eliminate waste and improve quality.
- Use data to identify trends, root causes, and areas for improvement.
- Implement corrective actions using structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA).
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to production teams.
- Troubleshoot issues related to equipment, materials, and processes.
- Recommend and implement new equipment and tools.
- Work with maintenance teams to ensure machinery is operating optimally.
- Collaborate with quality engineers to ensure products meet quality standards.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through improved processes, materials, or equipment.
- Conduct time and cost analysis of manufacturing processes.
- Develop and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.
- Prepare reports on process performance, efficiency, and improvement results.
- Lead or support projects related to new product introductions, capacity expansions, or technology upgrades.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, Maintenance, and Procurement.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Candidate Attributes required:
- Recent, proven experience Production / Process or Manufacturing Engineering.
- li>Bachelor's or foundation degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field as a time served apprentice.
- Knowledge and experience of using 8D methodology for problem-solving and six sigma methodology.
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and other quality control methods.
- Proven track record of process improvement and reduction in internal failure cost.
- Experience with process design, optimisation and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
- Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks) and other engineering tools.

**What you'll do:**
- Develops and maintains robust, cost efficient manufacturing processes and product structures consistent with lean manufacturing practices.

- Coordinates manufacturing liaison/s for products from inception through shipment to customer.
- Develops and integrates new processes and methodologies as to provide competitive advantages for the business.
- Recommends Capital Appropriation Requests (including payback and net present value analysis) for acquisition of equipment to support emerging and existing technologies.
- Trains associates as required.
**Qualifications:**
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Degree in Six Sigma or similar subject.
**Skills:**
- Detailed knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques - i.e. value stream mapping, one piece flow, etc.
- Understanding of Six Sigma concepts and tools and where they relate to minimizing process / product variability - i.e. regression analysis, design of experiments, hypothesis testing, etc. Ensuring they are deployed appropriately
- Thorough understanding of problem-solving methodologies used in determining root cause and formulating corrective action(s) - i.e. thought maps, 8D, root cause analysis, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Gage R & R, control charts, Pareto charts, etc.
- Proficiency in various software applications - i.e. Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing, MS Office suite, MiniTab, etc.
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles and technical specifications to support facilities competencies - i.e. metal cutting, tool design, injection molding, welding, soldering, etc.
- Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams
Advantageous:
- Detailed knowledge of engineering design and product reliability concepts as to facilitate analysis of fluid dynamics, thermal dynamics, electronic circuits, etc.
- Understanding of ProLaunch.
