What will you be involved in?
Frazer-Nash offers excellent opportunities for professionals with a background in submarine design, modification, operation, maintenance or safety. Examples of projects that our submarine domain consultants have worked on in the last 12 months include:
- Conducting a safety hazard evaluation to inform the design of a future attack submarine.
- Producing safety case documentation to underwrite the operation of the nuclear reactor plant.
- Providing technical oversight to support civil nuclear power stations during planned maintenance outages.
- Providing SM SQEP experience to support facility engineering and help future-proof critical shore side infrastructure.
- Exploring options for the Royal Navy’s adoption of future fuels across the[HW1] surface fleet with a focus on the achievement of Net Zero.
Requirements
If you have any of the following, then please apply now:
- Experienced MESM Cat A1/A2/Cat B operators.
- Experience of working in the commercial industry in support of the submarine enterprise.
- Knowledge of submarine whole boat or nuclear safety cases and safety analysis techniques, including HAZID, hazard management, functional hazard assessment, categorisation and classification.
- Experience in risk management and reduction, including ALARP assessments.
- Familiarity with Technical Assurance/Governance.
- Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards this for our more junior roles).
Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and will be required to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.

Sea Trials Engineer | Plymouth, UK
We’re representing a pioneering engineering company in Plymouth developing underwater and surface vehicle systems for the defence and subsea sectors.
This role is hands-on and varied, combining engineering expertise with practical field work at sea. You’ll play a key part in testing, operating, and maintaining cutting-edge uncrewed platforms — ensuring they meet demanding performance and safety standards.
Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, you’ll support the full lifecycle of bespoke subsea and surface systems from assembly and integration through to sea trials and operational deployment.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct and support structured sea trials and field tests of vehicles and subsystems
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain electro-mechanical and control systems
• Assist with hardware and software integration, calibration, and fault-finding
• Prepare vehicles for deployment, including pre-trial checkouts and post-trial servicing
• Capture and report operational data to engineering teams for ongoing product development
• Support launch, recovery, and small boat operations while maintaining safety and professionalism
Essential Requirements
• Degree or equivalent in an engineering, marine, or technical discipline
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in marine operations, vehicle trials, or field testing

• Strong problem-solving ability, teamwork, and attention to detail

Desirable Experience
Experience operating or maintaining uncrewed marine or robotic systems, knowledge of data acquisition or control integration, and familiarity with research or defence trials would be beneficial. Seamanship skills or RYA/STCW qualifications are also advantageous.
