Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer on a Permanent Contract based in West Midlands/ Hybrid Working.
Role Summary
You will be responsible for the design of mechanical installations, typically including municipal water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, ventilation systems, penstocks and valves, odour control systems, chemical dosing systems, pipework etc
Other duties to include:
- Interface with clients and collaborators in design and planning
- You will carry out visits to site to complete site surveys and the support of liaisons with clients, government authorities, contractors, suppliers.
- You will integrate with others disciplines within the business and external to agree and confirm a desired design
- Support bidding and be proactive in the winning of work.
- You will be tasked with delivering to an agreed budget, programme and quality
- Take ownership of specific 'skill areas' or activities within our technical knowledge networks.
- Supporting and mentoring and provide technical input which may serve as technical advisor to the team.
- You will seek innovation and trial new methods, being inquisitive by nature
- Provides input to the development of engineering specification and procedures to meet requirements.
- Opportunity to present your project work at company meetings or at conferences
- Working with and developing our digital tools and products.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified with a mechanical engineering bias
- You will have extensive UK Water Treatment or Heavy Infrastructure industry experience.
- You will have a blend of leadership and technical expertise.
- You will have a desire to assist in developing a team of junior engineers.

Your new role
Therefore this would suit someone either of their learning trajectory or someone who is a well established Mechanical Design Engineer.
Your role will evolve to include:
Create detailed designs for mechanical systems, including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive and efficient project execution.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need Building Services qualification or proven experience in a similar role.You will need to have a good level of computer literacy in Microsoft packages. You will need to have experience and awareness of mechanical designs and experience in using IES/Thermal Modelling. It would be beneficial if you have revit but not essential.
You will need to have detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards. You will be taking charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
