Mechanical/HVAC Engineer – Building Services


Location: Matlock (initially office-based, then hybrid working following probation)

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Travel: Projects across Derbyshire – Full UK Driving Licence & Own Transport Required

Experience: Minimum 2 Years as a Full-Time Mechanical / HVAC Engineer

Qualifications: Ideally HNC or above in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline. Time-served experience would also be considered.


About the Role


Our client, a multidisciplinary property and design consultancy known for delivering high-quality, sustainable building solutions, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join their Building Services team.


Based in Matlock, you will play a key role in the design, delivery, and oversight of Mechanical / HVAC systems across a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects throughout Derbyshire and surrounding areas, primarily within the Education sector.


This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Engineer looking to take ownership of projects from concept to completion , including site visits, design, and final sign-off .


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the design and implementation of Mechanical / HVAC systems for building services projects
  • Prepare and manage tender documentation
  • Conduct site inspections, oversee installation, and ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Sign off completed Mechanical / HVAC works and ensure quality assurance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Architects, Electrical Engineers, and Project Managers
  • Ensure all work complies with current regulations and sustainability standards



What We’re Looking For


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a full-time Mechanical / HVAC Engineering role within building services
  • HNC or higher qualification in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary design team on both refurbishment and new build projects
  • Experience of managing multiple projects at any one time
  • Experience working on Mechanical design within the Education sector
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and Mechanical standards
  • Ideally having experience in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, MEP Worx)
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (essential)
  • Live within a commutable distance from Derbyshire
  • Experience of working on projects within Local Authority would be advantageous
  • As would experience of working in a Building Consultancy
