Sole Legal Counsel – Podcasting Producer – London
EMEA Legal is exclusively retained to source a first Legal hire for a specialist in media production, marketing, and monetization. They are known for being a "next-generation media company" that offers a one-stop shop for creating and distributing content for global talent, brands, broadcasters, and rights holders. They have also recently merged with other London-based production companies, to create a "podcasting supergroup." They operate several content labels under their umbrella, each with a different focus in entertainment and televised podcasts, fiction and factual storytelling and dedicated to sports content.
This position will provide critical legal counsel, support contract negotiations, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate legal risks. You will work closely with both internal teams and external partners to drive business objectives while safeguarding all legal and commercial interests. This role is based in central London and requires you to be in the office three days a week, reporting to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Leadership & Strategy
- Provide strategic guidance on all legal matters impacting content production and distribution.
- Advise on all legal matters affecting the business and, when required, instruct outside specialist legal counsel.
- Develop and implement legal strategies, policies, and best practices to safeguard the company’s commercial interests.
- Monitor emerging legal trends and industry developments, advising the business on new risks and opportunities.
Contract Negotiation & Management
- Negotiate, draft, and review a wide range of commercial contracts, including production agreements, talent contracts, licensing deals, distribution agreements, and co-production arrangements.
- Manage the structuring and negotiation of licensing and content acquisition deals, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Advise on the terms of joint ventures, partnerships, and other strategic business relationships.
- Resolve disputes and handle matters related to potential litigation with clients, vendors, and external parties.
Intellectual Property & Rights Management
- Provide expert legal counsel on intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademarks, and related rights.
- Oversee the clearance and management of IP rights across all production projects.
- Collaborate with production and development teams to secure necessary rights for content creation, production, and distribution.
Skills & Experience
- Legal Expertise: Significant experience in content production across various platforms (network & streaming TV, social and digital channels, and audio), content and IP distribution, and media law.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the media industry, including production processes, distribution models, licensing, and international sales.
- Negotiation: Demonstrated expertise in negotiating complex commercial agreements and resolving contractual disputes.
- Risk Management: Strong ability to assess and manage legal, commercial, and reputational risks.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
Qualifications

The Role: This role is working for an independent global entertainment business that is going through some exciting growth and an exciting strategy for the future. They are hiring for an exciting Finance Manager opportunity reporting directly to the Finance Director. You will be a core member of the wider finance team and play a key part in supporting and strengthening the Finance and Accounting function. You will have ownership of the monthly close process, reporting and forecasting and oversight of day-to-day accounting and finance operations of the licensing division. Role and Responsibilities:
- Own and perform monthly close procedures and maintain adequate accounting records.
- Full responsibility to prepare Monthly/Quarterly P&L and Balance sheet, analysis and commentary.
- Review, analyze and reconcile data to ensure the accuracy of the company’s financial reporting.
- Responsible for revenue recognition and related cost of sales transactions.
- Liaising with AR to issue invoices and monitoring minimum guarantees, advances and royalties
- Prepare cash flow forecast and analysis for the global licensing business.
- Prepare quarterly forecasts and annual budgets in line with corporate FP&A timetables and working in conjunction with global sales executives.
- Ownership of long-range plan for the business unit.

- Prepare UK monthly cash request to be submitted to corporate

- Liaise with Hong Kong audit team for annual subsidiary audit
- Review expense reports with office manager
- Liaising with commercial, corporate, legal teams in NY, Toronto and UK.
- Responsible for marketing and tradeshow lines in Rights business P&L
- Prepare overheads for forecasting and budgeting across rights and K&F production business
- Other ad-hoc project duties as required by Director of Finance
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 1-2 years PQE (ACCA, CIMA)
- Strong Microsoft excel skills – vlookups, pivot tables
- Prior experience with ERP and FP&A/management reporting software and rights management database software is a plus (e.g. Netsuite, Workday Adaptive, Rightsline)

**Overview of the role**
Moderators are responsible for moderating centres' assessment of candidates' work in accordance with the agreed assessment criteria and the awarding organisation's procedures.
