As a Nurse your key duties include:

  • Accurately assess the needs of residents and identify priorities of care.

GSL Education are looking for a resilient and caring Behaviour Support Assistant to join an alternative provision school in Dorchester . If you’re motivated to make a real impact and want to support students in achieving both academic and life goals, this is the role for you.

In this role, you will work closely with children and young people who are outside mainstream education, supporting them through behaviour management strategies, mentoring, and personalised learning. You’ll be a key part of a team that promotes emotional development, re-engagement, and growth.

About the School:

The client school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post-16 life.

Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils displaying challenging behaviours.
  • Implement behaviour intervention strategies under guidance from SENCOs and pastoral teams.
  • Promote emotional regulation, social skills, and classroom engagement.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils based on trust and consistency.
  • Support students in developing the confidence and skills required for future success.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.

Behaviour Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistance, Youth Work, or Health & Social Care is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a calm, patient, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour constructively.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of promoting pupil wellbeing.
