Your Role

Working directly on-site or remotely with the customer, you will take a key role in delivering Capgemini Engineering and customer projects. You will utilise engineering principals and knowledge to support a wider range of topics – with an emphasis on, but not limited to, carbon fibre primary structure applications in conjunction with aerospace metallic materials and manufacturing principals. 

Key responsibilities include:


•    Developing and providing materials design guidance from first principals, covering predominantly:
o    Composite materials /Reinforced Plastic

o    Aluminium – tempers/conditions, surface treatments, applications
o    Titanium – surface treatments, applications
o    Adhesive bonding
o    Mechanical fastening
•    Support material selection and certification activities.
o    Defining, planning and executing test campaigns in support of the above.
o    Create and maintain material compatibility and surface protection practices and manuals.
•    Develop Material Specifications to ensure materials meet required performance, quality, and compliance standards for production. 
•    Manage and generate relevant documentation for the Technical Qualification of materials.
•    Generate Manufacturing Engineering process instructions (Assembly principals, Sealant and anti-corrosion, Process validation)

Your skills and experience

Qualifications:
•    Degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or other relevant fields with specialization in composites.

Experience:
•    Experience in aerospace engineering with a focus on composite materials is desirable.
•    Experience in managing and generating documentation for material qualification and certification procedures.
•    Experience in developing and implementing manufacturing process specifications and material specifications.
•    High competence in at least one of the above technical areas, with demonstrable ability across the remaining areas desirable.

Relevant Skills:
•    Strong knowledge of materials science, including composite materials, material compatibility, surface protection practices, and material qualification processes.
•    Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage Jira boards and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the core team and external stakeholders.

· You will be a part of Design and Applications Engineering, Value Engineering, and support Supplier Transition requirements, including serving as part of the investigation in concurrent Design: participate to defining manufacturing process approval requirements, product testing and design new material qualification for aerospace applications.
· Driving specification evolution from locally-owned process specifications towards global Honeywell standards and significant supplier technical support for components with special processes, conducting maintenance audits to ensure specification and process compliance, support determination of Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) associated with process or product escapes, and identification of manufacturability improvement opportunities and cost reduction.
· Significant stakeholder management and ownership of project milestones will be expected, including key customer relationship maintenance with Honeywell Engineering (Design, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering) and Supply Chain personnel (Sourcing / ISC), as well as the entire supply base.
A minimum of a Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Technology or similar.
· Experience in materials design/selection and working experience in a manufacturing environment
· Knowledge and particular interest in Elastomers/Rubbers.
· Experience working with specialist materials and products as this will be working on aerospace products with safety critical elements attached.
· Ability to communicate clearly & concisely on complex technical matters to various levels in the organisation.
· Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks quickly in a dynamically changing environment and analytical skills

Our client, a prominent player in the Energy sector, is seeking a Principal Materials & Corrosion Engineer for a contract position based in Manchester or Aberdeen. This role involves working on a Carbon Capture & Storage project on the East Coast of the UK.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the client focal point for all material-related activities and technical queries for BP's NEP/NZT Projects
  • Providing guidance and advice on material issues and corrosion problems
  • Preparing engineering documentation related to material selection, cathodic protection, and coatings
  • Preparing Material Selection Reports/Philosophies and Material Selection Diagrams (MSD's)
  • Developing Corrosion Control, Corrosion Monitoring, and Cathodic Protection Philosophies
  • Creating Cathodic Protection design reports, drawings, and Material Take Offs (MTOs)
  • Supporting Asset Integrity Plans, Corrosion Management, and Corrosion Risk Assessments
  • Estimating manhours, creating deliverable lists, and drafting technical write-ups for projects and proposals
  • Reviewing procedures, reports, and drawings submitted by Suppliers

Your Role as a Field Service & Calibration Engineer:

  • You'll be field based, predominantly covering a region but with further UK travel as needed.
  • You will be responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of this testing equipment and instrumentation.
    • Examples include impact, tensile, universal, fatigue, torsion.
  • You will be working within a variety of appealing manufacturing sectors including the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries, amongst others.
  • You will play an important role in ensuring the equipment is correctly calibrated and maintained to UKAS standards.
  • Compile detailed reports as appropriate.
  • The field-based nature of the role will require nights away from home; on average of 1 - 2 per week.

Ideal Background for the Field Service & Calibration Engineer:

  • Knowledge of one of the following is essential:
    • Materials Testing equipment, either as a current service engineer, or as somebody using the machinery in a lab.
    • Service and calibration knowledge of load cells and connected systems such as checkweighers, weighbridges, or similar.
  • A strong engineering understanding is essential in mechanical, electrical, and fluid disciplines.
  • Approachable, honest, and a team player.
  • Strong IT and communication skills.
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence and have right to work in the UK as sponsorship can't be provided.

The Package for the Field Service & Calibration Engineer:

  • 35,000 - 40,000 basic salary, depending on experience
  • Annual company performance related bonus
