Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager to join our Team, and play a key role in the efficient and smooth operation of the practice. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and an understanding of team management. Experience in the dental field is required.

We have Practice Managers at the other practices, and so you will have a management team to work alongside with. You will also have support from the Group Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and inspire a team of dental professionals, administrative staff, and support personnel.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions to ensure staff development and adherence to best practices.
  • Undertake appropriate HR duties in respect of recruitment, induction, training, monitoring of CPD, appraisals.
  • Manage rotas, performance issues, pay issues, grievance and disciplinary issues and dismissal.
  • Build a productive relationship with the clinicians, supporting them to achieve their contractual and clinical goals.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the dental practice.
  • Implement and optimise administrative processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Managing appointment booking systems and optimising the appointment diary to minimise downtime.
  • Reducing cancellations and no-shows through proper communication and reminders.
  • Managing the practice management software (SOE EXACT).
  • Troubleshooting and liaising with IT support as needed.

Financial Management:

  • Overseeing budgets, payroll, invoicing, and expense control.
  • Tracking practice profitability and reporting to owners.
  • Grow practice revenues, and understand how to generate income and control costs.
  • Preparing performance reports and data analysis (e.g., patient flow, revenue).
  • Contributing to strategic planning and long-term goals.

Patient Relations:

  • Ensuring patients have a positive experience from first contact to follow-up.
  • Managing complaints and feedback to improve service.

Compliance and Regulations:

  • Ensuring the practice complies with health and safety, GDPR, and infection control protocols.
  • Staying updated with CQC, GDC, and other relevant regulations.

Requirements:

  • Experience in dentistry required.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

The role offers the opportunity to provide Special Care Dentistry for vulnerable adults including the provision of conscious sedation and general anaesthesia within the Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB) area. The post holder may be asked to lead and support service development and provision of oral care for vulnerable people in all aspects of Special Care Dentistry across the three counties of the Health Board area.

To provide and co-ordinate comprehensive services for vulnerable adults requiring Special Care Dentistry. This includes all aspects of clinical leadership, treatment and relevant management duties in order to provide this role.

To lead and co-ordinate appropriate CDS directorate research interests which will inform the delivery of Special Care Dentistry in accordance with the HDUHB Research and Development framework.

To develop integrated oral care pathways by liaising with other healthcare providers and external agencies for vulnerable adult groups.

To take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the HDUHB Oral Health plans and the Health Board Plan

To exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the Community Dental Services

To work in conjunction with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the Community Dental Service is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process of colleagues.

Represent HDUHB on regional and national groups related to Special Care Dentistry as appropriate, for example, Managed Clinical Networks.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.
