- Proven experience in the defence sector is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of naval propulsion systems, power plants, and marine auxiliary machinery.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and engineering simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Siemens NX).
- Strong understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics.

+ Certified Functional Safety Engineer with demonstrable Functional Safety knowledge.
+ Previous experience of delivering Functional Safety documentation.
+ Experience of functional safety analysis techniques, including, but not limited to, conducting FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, HARA activities.
+ Experience of working with functional safety standards.
+ Experience with safety planning tools.
+ Is a sole UK National and holds, or be eligible to obtain, UK security clearance to SC level.
**Desired characteristics**
+ Experience within the UK Defence sector, in particular with the UK Royal Navy.
+ Knowledge of military and/or defence standards.

As the **Lead Controls and Automation Engineer,** you will be responsible for delivering control system projects primarily for Marine, Offshore and Naval applications. Your technical knowledge will help progress electrification and decarbonization in the marine business sector.
This technical role entails working with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design, implement and test our Controls & Automation Systems solutions to meet both customer and marine classification society requirements.
**In this role you will focus on:**
+ Supporting the engineering activities during the production of control systems from the receipt of an order to handing over to the customer after commissioning and testing on the vessel at sea.
+ Providing a technical interface to customers, classification societies, and suppliers.
+ Producing design, installation, and test documentation; maintaining this documentation throughout the project cycle.
+ Working with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings, and interface schedules.
+ Performing the functional design of HMI, PLC Architecture, Networks, and Communications Interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
+ Writing PLC software using IEC 61131-3 programming languages e.g., Ladder diagram (LD), Function block diagram (FBD), Structured text (ST), Instruction list (IL), and Sequential function chart (SFC).
+ Designing, tagging, and testing control system mimics using HMI SCADA packages.
+ Managing change during the project lifecycle using appropriate change management processes.

**Essential requirements:**
+ Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport ("UK Eyes only").
