Role overview
Being able to provide consistent data that describes the capability of the Radio Access Network (RAN) is critically important to all our customers. It's so important to get the complex nature of the radio network simplified to explain network status, availability and need for change to both technical and non-technical people, more so than ever before with the need to design and deliver the system feeds reporting for RAN coverage, resilience and change data.
You will be responsible for the design and delivery of the data feeds, automation, analytics and reporting solutions that have a focus on RAN Release and Change Management and ESN tools. You will have a direct impact upon:-
- Solution Design for the exchange of RAN operational and resilience data to support the day to day planning decisions for ESN users .
- RAN Tools enhancements and evolutions, within our partners, to meet ESN requirements.
- Creation and publishing high level OSS solution designs focusing on positive customer experience through pre and post change validation (Consumer and ESN).
What you'll be doing - your accountabilities
- Collaborate closely with RAN OSS design authorities to co-create and deliver solutions that align with the requirements outlined in the ESN contract.
- Develop a strong understanding of change control processes and how OSS designs can support and validate transitions before and after implementation.
- Partner with internal teams to design and deliver seamless data exchange solutions to visualisation platforms - such as coverage portals - that incorporate network resilience and location-based insights.
- Create clear and comprehensive documentation of data flows and solution designs, ensuring they are traceable, auditable, and easy to maintain.
- Ensure all systems introduced are respectful of privacy and security standards, fully adhering to GDPR and internal security policies.
- Provide supportive guidance to a matrix (virtual) team of technical experts, helping them deliver network design solutions and offering thoughtful technical advice to a wider team, including internal colleagues and supplier partners.
The skills you'll need to succeed
- A good understanding of Operational Support Systems and Business Support Systems, especially in Mobile
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes and specifically Change and Release Management
- Expertise in BMC Remedy or similar ticketing software
- Experience with integrating data from external sources into internal platforms, including ETL pipelines and API-based data exchange
- Ability to design scalable, secure, and reliable OSS architectures that support Release and Change Management workflows
- Familiarity with RAN, transmission technologies, and telecom protocols (2G/4G/5G/NB-IoT).
- Proficiency in SQL and database design to support structured data flows and reporting
- Skills in Python, Shell, or similar scripting languages for automation and data manipulation

The role will involve understanding the business and technical requirements and you will be responsible for the producing the relevant design collateral (including passing any governance reviews), providing hands on configuration and implementation support, troubleshooting technical issues, ensuring effective handover to service and supporting the project team in its milestone deliverables.
Key Skills and Experience
- Strong technical networking knowledge with industry-recognized certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIS-ENT).
- Experience with routing protocols, virtual routing instances, VPNs, and security zones.
- Experience with network security products including Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS).
- Proficiency in F5, Cisco Secure Firewall, and Gigamon technology.
- Demonstrable design experience with global network vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
- Network device configuration, troubleshooting, and defect resolution skills.

We are looking for a Network Design Engineer to work on delivery opportunities taking place within the secure Defence and National Security sector. Your experience:
- Strong technical networking knowledge of LAN switching/topologies, routing protocols, VPNs, IPSec, hardware encryption, MPLS, and BGP. The candidate will have a good working knowledge of Cisco/Juniper products and JUNOS operating system and Cisco IOS. Ideally with industry recognized network certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIS-ENT.
- Demonstrable network device configuration skills, network troubleshooting skills and approach to defect resolution.
- Demonstrable design experience in proposing and utilizing technologies from global network vendors such as Cisco and Juniper, including production of quality technical documentation for delivery and solution support.
- Solid understanding of project end to end life cycle, through initial requirements gathering, design, implementation and deployment activities to Operational Acceptance into Service.
- Able to support effective service and project management with accurate estimation of tasks, work scheduling and progress reporting to ensure timely delivery that meets the customers expectation.
- Excellent communications skills with multiple stakeholders, able to take ownership and responsibility and make quick decisions. Good experience of the defence sector.
