We are now looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer - Railway Systems with deep expertise in railway electrification, grid compliance, and EMC/power quality to join our growing team.
**Job Description**
As the Senior Power Systems Engineer- Railway Systems see you shape the technical direction of complex rail electrification projects, influencing design from pre-bid all the way through to delivery. You'll work on multi-megawatt power systems, advanced converter technologies, and ensure robust compliance with Network Rail and Grid Code standards.
You'll be the go-to technical expert within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, applying modelling, simulation, and innovation to electrify rail networks more reliably, efficiently, and sustainably.
**What You'll Do**
- Act as the technical authority on railway power systems, power quality, and EMC impacts
- Design and model multi-MW rail electrification systems, including power converters and protection schemes
- Provide guidance to cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and delivery teams
- Lead technical analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, or DigSilent
- Support full lifecycle project activity from pre-bid, tendering, through to execution and validation
- Ensure all solutions comply with applicable Network Rail, national grid, and international standards
- Represent GE in technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and industry bodies
- Contribute to the ongoing power systems strategy for rail and utilities within the UK and globally
- Drive innovation and technology adoption to meet the demands of future railway infrastructure
- Collaborate with sales and business development teams in technical workshops and customer engagement
- Support timely and quality-driven project delivery, balancing cost and performance.
**What You'll Bring**
- Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering, ideally with a focus on power systems
- Significant experience in railway power systems, grid connection, and power quality/EMC
- Strong knowledge of power electronic converter systems in rail or industrial settings
- Track record of designing or reviewing rail electrification systems (HV/MV/LV)
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, or DigSilent

- Experience working on UK rail infrastructure or similar regulated transport/power projects
- Ability to lead multiple technical workstreams in a fast-paced, evolving project environment
- Strong stakeholder communication and technical presentation skills

- Experience embedding safety and compliance into technical designs
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel (UK and international, short term)

We are actively recruiting for a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager to join our client's dynamic team. This position is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects from conception through to completion. This includes planning, executing, and closing projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your role will involve coordinating project activities, managing project timelines, allocating resources effectively, and mitigating risks. You will liaise with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and successful project outcomes. Key responsibilities include developing detailed project plans, managing project budgets and costs, conducting site visits and progress monitoring as required (virtually or occasionally in person where feasible and safe), and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. A strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methodologies, and project management software is essential. You should have a proven track record of successfully managing complex civil infrastructure projects. Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills are vital for this role, as is the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with all project participants. Experience with BIM and other relevant design software is a plus. This is a remote-first opportunity, requiring self-discipline and excellent organizational skills to manage your workload effectively.
