About the Role - Presenting news stories to the public in a clear, engaging and informative manner.


Responsibilities: As a News Anchor, you will:

  • Present scheduled shows on CGTN’s television and digital platforms as well as hosting ad hoc programmes/projects or remote and in-person events.
  • Conduct interviews and where necessary pre-interviews both live and pre-recorded, on set and on location.
  • Research topics and background information, pitch ideas, write and amend scripts, liaise with other members of the editorial teams.
  • Manage breaking news with ease, liaise with on-air producers and gallery staff, and conduct live interviews.
  • Deliver live reports to air with fluency and authority across all broadcast and digital platforms for CGTN Europe.
  • Be proficient in writing and structuring news packages in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Contribute to news production by pitching stories, writing scripts and questions, and helping set the editorial agenda.
  • Conceive and execute ideas for content tailor-made for digital and social media platforms.
  • Perform to the highest professional standards both in the studio and on location, in both presenting and reporting capacities.
  • Represent the channel either as a moderator or speaker at third party events, forums and conferences as required.
  • Play a team role, with a collaborative approach to producing the highest quality output. This can include identifying and eliminating errors, offering feedback and coaching for colleagues where appropriate.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural newsroom alongside team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Represent the network in a professional manner at all times, whether on air or in interactions on social media or other publicly accessible platforms.
  • Be prepared to travel on assignment across the UK, Europe and worldwide.


Qualifications -

Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field is preferred.


Required Skills:

  • At least 10 years of experience as a broadcast and digital news correspondent or presenter with an international media organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of current events, geopolitics, and international relations, especially across and within Europe and Asia.
  • Experience of reporting/presenting European, Chinese, and international news to a general audience in a clear and compelling way.
  • Experience of conducting compelling, news-making interviews, have a wide network of contacts for use as high-profile guests on our news programmes.
  • Have a proven history of breaking stories and generating distinctive content for the daily news agenda.
  • Have experience of presenting/reporting for both general and business news, and an ability to make complex issues understandable to an international audience.

*This position is based in Beijing and is only open to foreign passport holders*

Location: Beijing, China

Full-time: 12-month renewable contract


About the job

The ideal candidate has a solid background in TV journalism and a spirit for adventure. He or she will be joining CGTN at a time of major expansion. Successful candidates need to be great storytellers, have engaging live skills, and be experienced at handling breaking news. Candidates should have a high tolerance for ambiguity and be independent to thrive in a country where they likely don't speak the language. Preferred candidates have previously lived and worked abroad.


Key Responsibilities:

● Work closely with the news team to develop comprehensive news coverage.

● Host general news shows and assist in other shows as required.

● Conduct news reports and exclusive in-field and in-studio interviews.

● Perform active live shots in the field or studio as assigned by the producer.

● Write, voice and copy edit compelling news scripts. Film and edit news videos when needed.

● Prepared to work irregular shifts at short notice when required to cover breaking news.

● Support and champion all CGTN platforms and programs.

● Consistently and positively engages with the audience to increase General news social media footprint.

● Complete other tasks assigned by superiors.


Minimum Qualifications:

● Native-level English skills with a valid passport.

● 5+ years as a broadcast TV news anchor. Preferred: Previous reporting/anchoring experience in China/APAC.

● Smooth, mature, confident on-air presence with flawless segues; carry on a conversation with the viewers, find urgency in stories, and engage the audience; come prepared for show and editorial meetings with developed lead story ideas; write and edit accurate, concise, compelling copy; live shot expertise; review reporter copy for accuracy, conversational writing, and clarity.

● Flexible, adaptable, and approachable. A reputation as a“go to”person in the newsroom; a mentor for up-and-coming journalists.

● Strong "in-the-field and live" skills.

● Experience producing and loading digital content that engages the audience and increases followers.

● A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or English preferred.
