Our client is seeking a highly competent Site Electrical Engineer for a challenging construction project in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK . This contract role requires an individual with robust experience in overseeing and managing all electrical aspects on-site, from installation and commissioning to testing and final handover. The successful candidate will ensure that all electrical works are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with project specifications, relevant standards, and regulations. You will be the primary point of contact for all electrical-related matters on the construction site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the installation of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, and low-voltage networks.
  • Ensure all electrical work is carried out in compliance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and other relevant standards.
  • Manage site teams of electricians and subcontractors, providing clear instructions and supervision.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, and method statements, ensuring they are understood and followed.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality of work, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Identify and resolve any electrical issues or conflicts that arise during the construction phase.

Qualifications:
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Qualified Electrician with JIB grading or equivalent.
  • Significant experience as a Site Electrical Engineer or similar role on construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical installation practices, testing, and commissioning.
  • Thorough understanding of BS 7671 and CDM regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate site teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical engineering drawings.
  • Valid CSCS card or equivalent health and safety certification.
  • Experience with power generation, distribution, and control systems.

Role Summary

The Electrical Installation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and cleanroom tools, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, safety standards, and operational requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, circuits, cleanroom tools, and fixtures in accordance with electrical codes and regulations.
  • Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings to execute accurate electrical installations and repairs.

  • Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and minimize operational downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, following all safety procedures.
  • Manage and control HV isolation procedures in compliance with current legislation.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor contractor/vendor work; report on progress.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and refurbishment of site DCS and PLC systems (including MCERTS equipment).
  • Assist in commissioning plant equipment with process and commissioning engineers.
  • Support the design of electrical systems for process and utility systems.
  • Ensure stable and reliable service supply of the right quantity and quality.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Completion of a recognised electrical apprenticeship programme .
  • Qualified to BS 7671: 18th Edition (Requirements for Electrical Installations).
  • Proven experience as an electrician in industrial or commercial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards .

An exciting opportunity to join our Building Engineering Services department has arisen where you will play a key role in the delivery of education to future Electrical Engineers. This role can also provide you with worthwhile experience if you wish to pursue a career in teaching at a later stage.

Salary: Scale 5, Points , £31,001 - £3,385 per annum pro rata. (Equivalent to 5,500 - 6,692 per annum)

18.5 hours per week (including evening work and occasional early mornings and weekends).
