We're looking for a Site Engineer to join our KierBam JV project at Devonport Dockyard based in Plymouth, Devon. KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and Bam Nuttall we are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site

Location : Site Based, Plymouth, Devon

Hours : Permanent 45 hours per week

Due to the site being a high Security Military Naval base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and have been a UK residence for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

As a Site Engineer you'll be working within the Nuclear team, supporting them in delivering the redevelopment project at the Dockyard

Your day to day will include:
  • Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, i.e., drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork etc.
  • Assist in providing engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
  • Responsible for setting out works constructed within allowable tolerances.
  • Regularly checking the setting out points and benchmarks and checking that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control, to ensure accurate construction of the work.

What are we looking for as a Site Engineer?

This role of Site Engineer is great for you if:
  • Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent is desirable – one or more of:
    BSc, BA, BEng, Meng, Eng, Tech, MICE, TIStructE, LCIBSE, LCIBSEEng Tech,
    Completion of Higher Apprenticeship.
  • Familiar in Leica Survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, Optical & digital levels) for Setting Out & Survey
  • Experience in similar role.

We are currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to support our ongoing operations as a Designer’s Site Representative (DSR) on a secure Infrastructure/ Structure project at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.

This role is ideal for someone with previous site experience on major engineering projects who can proactively identify issues early on. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the safe and effective delivery of major projects within a highly regulated environment.

As a member of the DSR team, you will work closely with the DSR Leads and design teams to represent AECOM on-site, helping to ensure that construction works are delivered in accordance with the design intent, technical specifications, and quality standards. The role will involve regular interface with clients, contractors, and multi-disciplinary teams across the project lifecycle.

What you’ll do!
  • Supporting the DSR Package Leads by providing on-site representation of the design team.
  • Undertaking inspections and assessments of construction activities at key hold points for RC structural elements and concrete works to ensure compliance with design documentation.
  • Preparing clear and concise technical reports and inspection/surveillance records.
  • Attending site meetings, liaising with client representatives, resolving technical issues, and contributing to collaborative solutions.
  • Monitoring site works to ensure alignment with the relevant safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Reviewing contractor proposals to check for alignment with design requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinate and support responses to Technical Queries (TQs).

Requirements:
  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Familiarity with the inspection of reinforcement, including ability to read reinforcement drawings and bending schedules. Willingness to undertake training to develop this competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively on-site with clients and contractors.
  • A proactive and motivated approach to problem-solving and site-based delivery.
  • Ideally, prior site experience on major infrastructure or structural projects (desirable but not essential).
  • Good understanding and awareness of health and safety practices in a construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a DSR or construction inspection role on large civil or structural engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards.
  • Good understanding of the principles of reinforced concrete design and construction, including reinforcement detailing.
  • Previous experience working in secure or highly regulated environments (e.g., defence, nuclear, MOD sites) is an advantage.

To ensure all aspects of mechanical and electrical systems are maintained in optimal working order and in compliance with all contractual and legislative requirements.

Main Duties

  • To ensure all the contractual assets, mechanical & electrical systems are properly maintained and operating efficiently through effective planned preventative maintenance matching prescribed schedules.

  • To ensure all events (failures & faults) that have been raised for any contractual asset, mechanical or electrical system are reacted to timely, ensuring the appropriate actions taken to meet contractual requirements in returning the asset, mechanical or electrical system to full operational service.

  • To ensure that all events (failures & faults) where the contractual asset, mechanical or electrical system have been returned to operational service are "closed" in a timely manner and meeting contractual requirements.

  • To carry out all work activities in accordance with all relevant and current Health and Safety legislation.

  • To advise and assist the management team in reducing the utilities usage at the site, through daily monitoring of the site BMS system, engineering knowledge and best practice.

  • To meet with the site management regularly to provide performance information on all events (faults and failures), PPMs, sub-contractor performance, health & safety, lifecycle and utilities consumption reduction.

  • To participate in the out of hours stand-by and callout rota on a rotation basis including Bank Holidays.

  • To ensure that full Statutory Compliance is maintained in line with PPM schedules and SFG20.

  • To conduct testing of life systems (i.e., fire alarm & life-sign monitoring alarm) each week.

  • To provide the FM team with all necessary information (electronically), including supplier, sub-contractor, part numbers, description, quantities and costs to enable the FM team to place purchase orders as required in a timely and trouble-free manner.

  • To provide the Premises Manager, on a monthly basis with all the utilities meter readings.

  • To ensure any on site storage facility is kept clean, tidy and organised. To clean up after any self-work activity and ensure all sub-contractors clean up on completion of the activities

  • To assist in providing additional works quotations to enable the Premises Manager to complete the relevant contractual AVR (Authority Variation Request), within the required time frames.

  • To assist the Account Manager and the site Facilities Manager with any other duties in support of the contract as directed by the Account Manager.

  • Any other duties across the PFI Portfolio requested by the company.

Job Description

My client is a leading groundworks contractor with a very busy order book around Southend-on-Sea and they are looking to take on an engineer.

Site Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside the project management team.
  • Setting out, foundations, 278 works, drainage, Kerbs etc
  • works QA, AS - Builts.
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Ensuring works are being carried out in accordance to agreed methodology and method.
  • Ensuring the correct documentation is held on site.
  • Ensuring works are completed on time and to specification.

Site Engineer Requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience within
  • Strong communication skills.
