Based in London two positions exist for Optoelectronics Photonic Systems Designers to join an exciting new start up. This position is Hybrid and will focus on the development of disruptive technologies for HPC, AI / ML Technologies.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the Optical Network system design, implementation and testing, building of optical testbeds, modelling and characterisation of optical components and assessing Optical Transmission network performance for short reach AI Networked Systems.
The successful candidate will have a good relevant degree from a high calibre University, in either Physics, Electronics or related, along with extensive hands on experience in optical communication development.
Additionally:
• Experience of working with speeds of up to 100Gpbs either testing or Design
• Test automation using Python
For the more junior role a PhD candidate or researcher can be considered. For the more Senior, extensive experience of all of the above is required.
The salaries range from around £60k - £120k plus an excellent share option package, private medical and more. The company are looking for the best and to keep the best engineers to help revolutionize their products.

You should have achieved an MSc or PhD Degree in Optical Communications, Physics, or other relevant fields or experience within the industry.

We are looking for an Optical Engineer Intern to join us for a 13-week Summer 2024 Internship Program in Abingdon, Oxfordshire UK.
What you'll do:
+ Work with engineers to define and execute process DOEs to optimise current process cycle times and throughputs, as well as develop processes for new materials for applications in optics and photonics.
+ Assist engineers in resolving issues related to materials and manufacturing processes.
+ Create or update fabrication and metrology process procedural documentation.
+ The role is very hand-on, and will make use of a brand new cleanroom with an extensive range of tools and analytical instruments.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
+ Knowledge of both standard and novel materials for photonic applications, along with good understanding of nanofabrication processes.
+ Hands-on experience in one or more of the following lithography processes: Nanoimprint lithography, E-beam lithography and Photolithography.
+ Hands-on experience in one or more of the following metrology techniques: Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Ellipsometry, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Profilometry.
+ Strong background in data analysis and visualisation using JMP, Matlab, Python etc.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication and reasoning skills
+ Ability to collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional partners
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Currently enrolled in a Bachelors/Masters program in Electronics, Physics, Nanotechnology or a similar discipline with a graduation date no sooner than December 2024
+ Student must be in final year of University
+ Must be able to start in Abingdon office in May/June 2024
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in working with high refractive index glasses or UV curable polymers for photonic applications
+ Internship or academic experience working on projects related to nanofabrication and nanometrology

We're looking for an Optical Engineer/Scientist to join the Spectacles team!
The successful candidate will join our talented and multidisciplinary team to contribute to the creation of the next generation of the Spectacles product.

The successful candidate will join our talented and multidisciplinary team to contribute to the creation of the next generation of the Spectacles product. You will be responsible for:
+ Exploring future nanophotonics technologies for our Spectacles products
+ Developing new models and computational tools for the design of diffractive waveguide based near-eye displays
+ Developing novel nanostructures and diffraction grating architectures for diffractive waveguide displays
+ Exploring the potential of new material systems to create opportunities to improve the optical quality and manufacturability of these displays
+ Creating functioning prototypes
+ Providing support to other teams to inform decisions on manufacturing methods, materials choices and product design
+ Collaboratively working to create step changes in capability and performance for our Spectacles products
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
+ Good understanding of optical theory including Fourier and ray optics as they relate to the human visual system
+ Expertise in diffractive optics modelling techniques (FDTD,RCWA/FMM, etc)
+ Proficiency in optical simulation and design software e.g. Zemax, COMSOL, Lumerical
+ Strong background in scientific computing using Python, MATLAB, etc.
+ Self motivated, inventive mindset
+ Excellent verbal and written communication
+ Ability to collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional partners
+ Experience of practical optical experiments
+ Track record of delivering research projects with significant risk
Minimum Qualifications:
+ PhD in Photonics, Optics, Physics, Near-eye Displays or related field
+ 6+ years experience, inclusive of PhD, working in a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with diffractive waveguide near-eye display design
+ Understanding of metasurface simulation and design
+ Experience with optical experiment design and setup

Based in Cambridge, working with mechanical engineers, electronics engineers and software engineers to develop their life-improving medical devices.
As you will be focusing on optical systems design, it is expected that you have been working as an optical physicist, optical engineer, optical systems engineer, optical systems designer, opto-mechanical engineer or another role that has involved you in working on optical systems designing, prototyping, and testing of new medical devices.
You will be developing a range of medical technologies, so you will need to be able to use optical design tools such as Zemax, Code-V, OSLO, FRED or another similar technology.
